<p>Current Employees: If you are currently employed at SOMC please log into UKG Pro to use the internal application process.</p> <p>Department: Same Day Surgery</p> <p>Shift/Schedule: Part Time (24 hrs/wk), Temporary</p> <p>GENERAL SUMMARY</p> <p>Works under the supervision of the Same Day Surgery Nurse Manager. The Perioperative Liaison/Nursing Assistant/Unit Clerk's primary job function is to provide service to patients and families waiting in the Same Day Surgery lobby by providing information regarding surgery, patient progress, and hospital information as appropriate per HIPAA. Will also perform a variety of basic patient care activities for the personal needs and comfort of patients and may perform clerical duties associated with preparing, compiling, and maintaining patients' records. The Perioperative Liaison/Nursing Assistant/Unit Clerk will work with the staff in SDS, Surgery, and PACU to maintain a smooth flow of patients through the perioperative area. Performs other duties as assigned.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required </li><li>Ability to read and speak English required. </li><li>Working knowledge of medical terminology required. </li></ul> <p>Licensure:</p> <ul> <li>BLS within 90 days of hire required </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Previous experience preferred. </li><li>Experience in a related field with specialized knowledge i.e., conflict resolution, interpersonal communications, medical terminology, the working knowledge of a hospital, especially surgical services preferred. </li><li>Basic computer knowledge. </li></ul> <p>JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS</p> <p>The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.</p> <ol> <li> <p>Meets and greets patients and visitors as they arrive in the Same Day Surgery.</p> </li><li> <p>Enters patients into the computer when they arrive in the SDS lobby.</p> </li><li> <p>Acts as a liaison for patients and their families with hospital staff and physicians.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicates with Surgery and PACU concerning the progress of patient's surgery, or any reason for delays and provides this information to patients and family members.</p> </li><li> <p>Works to prevent complaints/problems, or to resolve complaints/problems, if they occur.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides directions and/or guidelines concerning the hospital when asked and handles telephone requests for information regarding patient progress.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains visitor control in the lobby.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in hospital or departmental committee, projects, and performance improvement; abides by hospital confidentiality policy.</p> </li><li> <p>Obtains consent for treatment upon patient arrival.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides patient instructions about what to expect during their perioperative stay.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs basic patient care activities/treatment/and daily assignments.</p> </li><li> <p>Observes patients and reports unusual conditions and/or reactions to the registered nurse.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.</p> </li><li> <p>Answers call lights and responds to patient needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains patient environment and performs routine cleaning tasks in nursing unit/patient rooms.</p> </li><li> <p>Documents according to policy.</p> </li><li> <p>Alerts staff when supplies are needed, replenishes stock, and runs errands.</p> </li><li> <p>Orders tests, treatments, and supplies.</p> </li><li> <p>Gathers and distributes departmental mail.</p> </li><li> <p>Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU's.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists with hourly rounding.</p> </li><li> <p>Stocks non-PAR level supplies daily and weekly according to department needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Properly maintains equipment including removing damaged/ nonworking pieces of equipment and completing maintenance repair requests in a timely manner.</p> </li><li> <p>Completes yearly glucometer competency and completes finger sticks as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs other duties as assigned.</p> </li></ol> <p>Thank you for your interest in Southern Ohio Medical Center.
