The peer mentor will be a valuable and engaged member of the CSAR team who will assist with welcoming people into CSAR, providing support with tabling and outreach as needed, direct students to appropriate resources, and specialize in supporting first-generation students at the University of Utah.</p> <p>CSAR is seeking Peer Mentors to support the following scholarship cohort programs:</p> <ul> <li>Utah Opportunity Scholars </li><li>Larry H. and Gail Miller Enrichment Scholars </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Assist students in effectively identifying and accessing resources across campus. </li><li>Conduct CSAR office tours and tabling as needed. </li><li>Assist Student Resource Navigators with programming and workshops as needed. </li><li>Create and lead out on cohort social events. </li><li>Provide mentorship for academic, co-curricular, and leadership involvement. </li><li>Conduct one-on-one check-in sessions with cohort students on a regular basis, as required by each program. </li><li>Utilize study strategies, goal setting, organizational skills, and time management techniques in check-in sessions. </li><li>Document check-in sessions by ensuring students sign in before each session and submitting student meeting form data. </li><li>Assess students' needs and help develop personalized support plans </li><li>Monitor and evaluate student progress toward short-term and long-term goals throughout the semester. </li><li>Communicate any training needs or student concerns to the appropriate Student Resource Navigator. </li><li>Advocate for the interests, needs, and rights of students in the cohort program </li><li>Act as a role model of positive behavior, representing the University and cohort scholarship with pride and respect. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Must be a current University of Utah student with at least 1 year of college credits (24 credits) completed at the University of Utah </li><li>Must be awarded a Federal Work-Study Award for the current year (Please login to CIS and go to the Finance/Financial Aid section to view your Financial Aid status. If you have not received a Federal Work-Study Award, then do NOT complete and submit this application. Before hire, this employer will confirm that you have received a Federal Work-Study Award for the current year.) </li><li>Availability to work a minimum of 12 in-person hours per week. </li><li>Involved on campus and/or knowledgeable of different on-campus resources </li><li>Essential personal attributes for this role include familiarity with campus resources, active involvement on campus, maturity, approachability, dependability, flexibility, and strong communication skills. </li><li>Comfortable engaging face-to-face with students </li><li>Interest and knowledge planning student events </li><li>Candidates should demonstrate the ability to model appropriate behavior, maintain confidentiality, and mentor students effectively. </li><li>Enthusiasm for the university, its student body, faculty, staff, and both academic and co-curricular aspects of university life is essential. </li><li>Dedication to motivating students to succeed academically and engage socially with their peers. </li></ul> <p>Preferences</p> <ul> <li>Current and actively engaged member of the Utah Opportunity or Larry H. and Gail Miller Enrichment scholarship cohort programs </li><li>Incoming Junior or Senior in the cohort program </li></ul> <p>Special Instructions Summary Additional Information</p> <p>The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems ("URS").
