<p>PRIMARY PURPOSE/SCOPE</p> <p>The Assistant Director of Facilities and Maintenance is responsible for aiding in the leadership, supervision, and execution of campus facilities operations, which include maintenance, repairs, and custodial services. This role ensures that all campus buildings and grounds are maintained to the highest standards of safety, functionality, and appearance to support the mission and daily operations of Bluefield University.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS</p> <p>The essential duties, responsibilities, and functions of this combined position include, but are not limited to, the following:</p> <ul> <li>Assist the Director in managing the daily operations of the maintenance and custodial teams </li><li>Coordinate, schedule, and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance tasks across campus buildings and grounds. </li><li>Supervise assigned staff, including performance evaluations, task assignments, and professional development. </li><li>Ensure compliance with safety protocols, building codes, and environmental regulations. </li><li>Respond promptly to work orders and campus emergencies </li><li>Assist the director in capital improvement and renovation projects as assigned </li><li>Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inventory, and equipment </li><li>Provide excellent service and communication to campus departments regarding facilities needs </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISORY DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>The Assistant Director of Facilities and Maintenance will work directly with the Director of Facilities to ensure that the physical infrastructure and maintenance operations of the University align with and support the Mission and Vision of the Institution. Collaboration on facility-related issues, including safety, scheduling, and project coordination, is essential. </li><li>The Assistant Director will also assist in overseeing maintenance staff and contractors to ensure the effective planning and execution of maintenance tasks, repairs, and facility-related projects throughout the year. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE</p> <ul> <li>Associate's degree or equivalent experience in facilities management, engineering, construction, or a related field </li><li>Minimum of 3 years of experience in building maintenance, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role </li><li>Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems </li><li>Familiarity with building codes, OSHA requirements, and general construction practices </li><li>Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills </li><li>Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in varying weather conditions </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or related field </li><li>Experience in higher education or institutional facilities operations </li><li>Certification in facilities management (e.g., IFMA, BOMI) </li></ul> <p>ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Physical Demands </li></ul> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
