<p>Hiring Department</p> <p>MizzouRec Services and Facilities is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides quality leisure experiences to all members of the campus community, primarily Mizzou students. Through our facilities and programs, we strive to bring our members and guests an environment that inspires and promotes a healthy, active lifestyle. MizzouRec enhances the student experience by creating a sense of "third place" and belonging with its vast services, facilities, and programming - in addition to its unique connection to campus history and traditions.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Summary</p> <p>The TigerX Group Fitness Instructor provides group fitness instruction in the TigerX program at MizzouRec. TigerX Instructors are responsible for leading a variety of group fitness classes. TigerX Instructors plan/lead classes, develop exercise routines, monitor participants' exercise form, and motivate participants in the TigerX program. TigerX Instructors are also responsible for mentoring new TigerX instructors and performing various evaluations on the new instructors.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Teaches a minimum of 3 TigerX classes per week; and helps to lead the class, develop exercises for the class based on expected class format, mentor new TigerX instructor(s), and maintain a safe class environment (by executing risk management plan). </li><li>Develops safe and effective group fitness classes for participants using a variety of modalities. </li><li>Attends all required training sessions and events for staff development and training. </li><li>Maintains current national certification in respective class modality and current American Red Cross CPR/AED certification. </li></ul> <p>Duties Include (but not limited to)</p> <ul> <li> <p>Teaching a minimum of 3 TigerX classes per week based on skills and knowledge level.</p> </li><li> <p>Attending scheduled staff meetings and trainings for student development and staff training.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, muscular function, exercise program implementation, safe group exercise or instructional procedures, and use of related class materials and/or equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for all participants.</p> </li><li> <p>An understanding of current trends in the fitness industry.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to correct and cue participants when they are performing an exercise in an unsafe and/or incorrect manner.</p> </li><li> <p>Awareness of safety and risk management procedures and how to respond in an emergency situation.</p> </li><li> <p>Cleaning and organizing studios before and after class.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicating in a timely manner with the Fitness Coordinator about issues, including reading and responding to emails/announcements/posts made by the Fitness Coordinator and lead staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Motivating members to consistently attend TigerX classes.</p> </li><li> <p>Adhere to all Team Mizzou guidelines and non-negotiables, including:</p> </li><li> <p>Modeling, promoting, and consistently enforcing MizzouRec policies.</p> </li><li> <p>Understanding and upholding the policies and procedures outlines in the Team Mizzou handbook, as well as the TigerX Instructor Expectations.</p> </li><li> <p>Adhering to assigned job schedule.</p> </li><li> <p>Evaluating and coaching new TigerX instructors by providing weekly feedback, mid-semester evaluations, and Job Performance Average (JPA) evaluations when assigned by the Fitness Coordinator and/or lead staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Participating in peer evaluation of co-TigerX instructors through JPA evaluation with Fitness Coordinator and/or lead staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain JPA score of 2.5 or higher on a consistent basis.</p> </li><li> <p>Obtaining and maintaining national certification in respective modality for class type taught.</p> </li><li> <p>Appropriate LOOK must be demonstrated at all times.</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as assigned.</p> </li></ul> <p>Anticipated Hiring Range</p> <p>$15.25 per hour (Non-Certified), paid on a bi-weekly basis.</p> <p>$16.00 per hour (Certified), paid on a bi-weekly basis.</p> <p>Shift</p> <p>Average hours per week: 6.</p> <p>Shift: 50-minute classes, plus 20 minutes for class setup and breakdown. Consecutive classes may also be taught.</p> <p>This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri. Enrollment in the summer session is not required if the student was enrolled in the Spring semester and is pre-enrolled for the Fall semester. Selection is contingent upon results of a review with the Office of Institutional Equity, Office of Student Accountability & Support, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, previous MU appointment history, and reference checks.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>National Certification (ACE GFI, AFAA GFI, ACSM GFI, Zumba Basics Level 1, Turbo Kick, YogaFit Level 1 or higher, 200 RYT or higher, Pilates certification [Peak Pilates, Balanced Body, Fletcher Method, others by approval], ACE PT, AFAA PT, ACSM CPT, NASM CPT, NSCA CPT, and others by approval of Fitness Coordinator).</p> </li><li> <p>Successful completion of a MizzouRec Instructor Training Course.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated knowledge/expertise in the course's subject material (Dance):</p> </li><li> <p>5+ years of previous dance experience.</p> </li><li> <p>Trained in the style of ballet and one other dance genre (jazz, tap, hip-hop, contemporary, lyrical, pointe).</p> </li><li> <p>Member of a competitive dance team for 2+ years (having leadership on the team is a plus).</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated knowledge/expertise in the course's subject material (Boxing):</p> </li><li> <p>3+ years of boxing, mixed martial arts, or combat sport experience.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience teaching in a Boxing, Mixed Martial Art (MMA), or Combat Sport Gym.</p> </li><li> <p>Interest in fitness and wellness and commitment to providing quality service.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent oral communication skills, and the ability to lead large groups.</p> </li><li> <p>Reliable, self-motivated, and able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge and proficiency of beat counting, cueing, organizing choreography, and developing workouts for a variety of fitness levels and goals.</p> </li></ul> <p>Application Materials</p> <p>Complete application, and upload the following: résumé, class schedule, cover letter, and 3 or more references which must include at least 1 MU supervisor (if applicable).
