Join our multinational team of intelligent, motivated, and collaborative people, and help us make financial protection accessible to all.</p> <p>A Brief Overview</p> <p>The Director, Derivatives Accounting role is focused on developing and accounting for all derivative positions across the organization. This role drives continual improvement and efficiency of derivative accounting processes and platforms through knowledge, experience and coordination of IT, vendors and the Derivative Middle office, as well as Trading & Portfolio Management. This will require investigation of system capability, writing of accounting specs and testing plans, assistance to IT in implementation, conducting user acceptance testing, working through open issues with IT, and the delivery of ready to use accounting solutions in Findur and other supporting systems.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Manage derivative accounting operations to appropriately account for non-qualified derivatives and to appropriately achieve qualified hedge accounting on cash flow hedges, fair value hedges and on net investment in foreign operations. </li><li>Help develop new tools and processes to support accounting needs, inclusive of derivative positions and their adjustments to other parts of the balance sheet or income statement. </li><li>Lead development of accounting infrastructure / processes to allow incorporation of current and evolving derivative strategies </li><li>Provide training support of newly developed system tools, accounting rules, use of hedge accounting module, and other new related tools where person has developed </li><li>Periodically receive project list including current prioritization on derivative accounting platform and work to execute solutions and improvements </li><li>Active involvement in new deal process including supporting new instrument types, new currencies, and/or new hedge accounting methodologies </li><li>Supervise the development of Investment Accounting staff and foster a team environment to ensure collaborative work to accomplish department goals. Establish and monitor quality goals, review work completed by direct reports, ensure quality Investment Accounting practices and communication to associates and management. </li><li>Work with internal departments to assure integrity of data and reports and continually evaluate quality of information for accuracy and compliance and work to resolve various reporting and process flow problems. </li><li>Collaborate with other members of the Finance leadership team to develop goals/plans/budgets that align with division and company objectives and then manage to those expectations. Provide feedback to Head of Derivative Operations on likely future system improvement ideas. </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <p>Required</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in arts/sciences (BA/BS) in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration or equivalent related work experience </li><li>7+ years insurance accounting, auditing or Investment Accounting experience </li><li>3+ Years derivative accounting experience </li><li>CPA (active or inactive) </li></ul> <p>Preferred</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in arts/sciences (MA/MS) </li><li>Progress towards FLMI or CFA Charter holder </li><li>Public accounting experience </li><li>Advanced experience with GAAP accounting </li><li>Experience with derivative platform such as Findur, Murex, Calypso </li></ul> <p>Skills and Abilities</p> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>Strong knowledge of Derivative Instruments and experience accounting for them </li><li>Good knowledge of derivative products including structure of cashflows and usage cases </li><li>Strong business knowledge with knowledge of broad investments business practices </li><li>Strong ability to multi-task and effectively manage multiple tasks and projects, including the ability to re-prioritize tasks constantly based on the level of activity generated by the team and other associates. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan.
