<p>Position Definition: The Roving Park Ambassador plays a key role in creating a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for visitors to Norwalk's parks, trails, and recreational spaces. Ambassadors serve as visible representatives of the Department of Recreation & Parks, engaging with the public, promoting responsible park use, and supporting various park programs and community events. This position requires strong customer service skills, a passion for the outdoors, and the ability to work independently while roving between park locations.</p> <p>General Duties: </p> <ul> <li> <p>Customer Service & Visitor Engagement:</p> </li><li> <p>Provide friendly and knowledgeable assistance to park visitors. Share information about park amenities, upcoming events, and general guidelines. Direct guests to various facilities or areas as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Park Rule Education & Monitoring:</p> </li><li> <p>Promote awareness and adherence to park rules and regulations. Observe park activity, report crowd control issues, and address concerns professionally and courteously.</p> </li><li> <p>Safety Awareness:</p> </li><li> <p>Remain vigilant of safety hazards or potential issues. Report concerns appropriate personnel in a timely manner to ensure a secure environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Event Support:</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with setup, breakdown, and basic support during Park Use events, special events (e.g., outdoor concerts, sports programs), and community activities. May also perform light maintenance such as restocking restrooms and managing waste during events.</p> </li><li> <p>Visitor Education:</p> </li><li> <p>Provide park visitors with educational information regarding park history, conservation initiatives, and local wildlife to enhance the visitor experience.</p> </li><li> <p>Field Presence & Permit Monitoring:</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as the "eyes on the park" for administration by patrolling assigned areas. Monitor sports fields and courts to ensure compliance with permitted use.</p> </li><li> <p>Park Inspections:</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct monthly park inspections based on departmental guidelines. Submit completed reports to the Parks Superintendent and Director.</p> </li><li> <p>Team Collaboration:</p> </li><li> <p>Work in coordination with Parks & Recreation staff, volunteers, and other City departments to support public programs and foster community engagement.</p> </li></ul> <p>Supervised By: Receives general supervision from the designated Supervisor.</p> <ul> <li> <p>High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred. </p> </li><li> <p>Minimum of two (2) years of experience in parks, recreation, customer service, or a related field. </p> </li><li> <p>Experience with outdoor environments, sporting events, or facilities like country clubs is a plus.</p> </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements: </p> <ul> <li> <p>Ability to walk, stand, and move throughout park areas for extended periods.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, such as equipment or park supplies.</p> </li></ul> <p>License or Certificate:  Not applicable.</p> <p>Note: The above is an illustration of tasks and responsibilities.  It is not meant to be all-inclusive for every task or responsibility.</p> <p>Approximate Work Schedule:</p> <ul> <li>Part-time position, up to 25 hours per week. 9am-to 3 pm or 4:30 pm-9:30 pm </li><li>Schedule may vary and could include weekends, evenings, and holidays based on park needs and community events.
