<p>General Job Information</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>This position is located in Service Centers throughout the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) within the District of Columbia (D.C.). Incumbent performs customer transactions, including vehicle titles, registration and tags, operator permits, non-driver identification and driver records residential and reciprocity parking permits, tickets processing, hearing scheduling and appeals services. A Service Center manager will be responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction in the processing of customer transactions and supervision of Service Center employees. Employee is expected to perform the full range of normal Department of Motor Vehicles transactions, as well as understand their relationships and independently respond to questions and queries from the public.</p> <p>The position functions as a Legal Instrument Examiner responsible for processing customer transactions in all areas of the Department's Service Center operations. These areas include first time vehicle registration, registration renewal, learner permits, driver's permits and renewals, commercial operator's permits, nondriver identification cards, residential parking permits (RPP), reciprocity parking permits, title transactions and related administrative support functions (e.g., names change, address change, driver record, etc.) and ticket processing support, contesting, hearings, appeals and other support functions (medical applications, etc.).</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Assists new employees in problem resolution and makes proposals to minimize on-going service problems. Handles complex transactions and non-routine matters, including non-standard documentation, international documents, stop investigations, etc. Serves at the information counter to accept customer questions and requests and is able to accept, research and respond to ad-hoc questions from the public which may entail complex, intertwined issues. Works at an information counter, and provides independent advice to customers on complex transactions, including international and other non-standard documentation.</p> <p>Serves as the primary informational resources for the general public and business inquiries related to motor vehicle and driver services. Interprets, applies, and explains to the public and new employees, the provision of the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Provides advice to customers on requirements and issues resolutions. Answer questions from and provide procedural assistance to new employees. Inspect documents for authenticity and acceptability. Conducts examinations of more than one type of legal instrument and associated supporting documents to determine proof of identity, birth date, proof of residence, proof of social security number, proof of insurance, and other eligibility requirements of the products and services of the Department.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION</p> <p>Specialized Experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the line of progression.</p> <p>LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS</p> <p>None</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>The work environment involves the everyday risks or discomforts associated with office settings.
