No VP Area President Department 02128 - Chief Safety Officer Location Campus City Salt Lake City, UT Type of Recruitment External Posting Pay Rate Range $15.00 Close Date 07/31/2026 Priority Review Date (Note - Posting may close at any time) Job Summary</p> <p>The Department of Public Safety Chief Safety Office is seeking two candidates for it's Student Ambassador Program to run from September 2026-April 2027. As an ambassador you will be collaborating within the department and community on special projects based on need and your unique interests. Past projects have included: pedestrian safety campaigns, various department tabling events, front desk support, student engagement, and Utah Campus Safety Summit preparation.</p> <p>Safety is a top priority for the University of Utah. The Chief Safety Officer (CSO) for the University is the Director of Public Safety and serves as chief of police services. The CSO is responsible for overseeing the University's Department of Public Safety, which includes the following operational divisions: University Police, Campus Security, Health Security, Emergency Management, Emergency Communications, and the central administrative Office of the CSO.</p> <p>Safety looks and feels different to each person, and the U Department of Public Safety is committed to working with the community to foster a safe environment where all individuals feel empowered and equipped to succeed in their work, education, and other business with the university.</p> <p>More at publicsafety.utah.edu.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Work up to 10 hours a week based on need, academic schedule, and events. </li><li>Collaborate with DPS teams and/or individuals on special projects. </li><li>Assists on campus and state-wide safety initiatives, including the annual Utah Campus Safety Summit. </li><li>With approval from your department supervisor, identify a project that will target a particular campus community with the goal of furthering positive communication, education, and understanding between DPS and students on relevant public safety issues. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications Preferences</p> <p>Students involved in athletic, fraternity and sorority life, on campus housing, or other formal student groups are strongly</p> <p>encouraged to apply.</p> <p>This position may require the successful completion of a criminal background check and/or drug screen.</p> <p>Special Instructions Summary Additional Information</p> <p>The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems ("URS").
