<p>This position is located in the Transportation Section of the Engineering Service at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System in Castle Point, NY. The Motor Vehicle Operator is responsible for providing all transportation assistance to the medical center, which includes transporting patients and family members, supplies equipment, construction material, office and hospital furniture, and clean linen and uniforms.</p> <p>Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Operates a variety of motor vehicles including cargo, van, trucks, and buses, which are gasoline or diesel powered with approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds and up to 32,000 pounds; </li><li>Transports patients and family members, supplies, materials, or equipment throughout the medical center complex and the local public area; </li><li>Performs required operator maintenance; maintains service records; completes delivery records, trip tickets; and completes accident report in case of accident; </li><li>Understands the operations difficulties such as weight restrictions, various vehicle prohibitions on certain roads or areas, and rough terrain in order to haul equipment materials; </li><li>Loads and unloads crated and uncrated equipment, supplies, and parts from vehicles; </li><li>Uncrates material and as necessary, checks, counts, and sorts materials, stocks and palletizes material in closed or open storage; </li><li>Operates a forklift truck (of up to 10,000 or more pound capacity) in indoor warehouse or outside storage areas and on loading dock to load, unload, and store material; and </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm</p> <p>Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized</p> <p>Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved</p> <p>DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
