<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Category: Student Support Services/Special Education Teacher</p> <p>Date Posted: 3/2/2026</p> <p>Location: Region One School District</p> <p>Date of Availability: 08/18/2026</p> <p>Date Closing: When Filled</p> <p>K-8 Special Education Teacher | Full-Time (1.0 FTE)</p> <p>Job Summary:</p> <p>We are seeking a dedicated and collaborative Special Education Teacher to support K-8 students in a variety of learning environments. The successful candidate will plan and deliver individualized instruction, track student progress, and work closely with colleagues and support staff to create inclusive and effective learning experiences.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Plan and implement data-driven instruction in the resource room and/or classroom for individuals and small groups. </li><li>Monitor, document, and report student progress toward academic, behavioral, social, and emotional goals. </li><li>Utilize specialized tools, programs, and equipment to scaffold learning and support student needs. </li><li>Collaborate with classroom teachers to enhance learning environments and instructional strategies. </li><li>Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine students' academic levels and instructional needs. </li><li>Develop, maintain, and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and other relevant special education documentation. </li><li>Facilitate planning and placement team (PPT) meetings. </li><li>Partner with related service providers and behavior specialists (BCBAs) to implement individualized programming. </li><li>Supervise and support paraprofessionals in classrooms and resource rooms. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned to support student learning and school initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements & Working Environment:</p> <ul> <li>Frequent standing, walking, bending, and movement between classrooms and resource areas. </li><li>Ability to lift and move educational materials, student supplies, and occasional equipment (up to 25-30 lbs). </li><li>Support students in hands-on activities, including fine and gross motor exercises, adaptive physical activities, and personal care when necessary. </li><li>Engage actively in classroom management and student supervision, including assisting students with mobility or physical guidance. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Connecticut State Department of Education Comprehensive Special Education Certificate (165) or equivalent. </li><li>Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. </li><li>Experience with K-8 students preferred. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions:</p> <p>Regional School District No. 1 serves rural Northwest Connecticut and includes six elementary schools and one high school.</p> <p>Application & Interview Procedure:</p> <ul> <li>Apply online: [JobID: 1696] </li><li>Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis; early applications are encouraged. </li><li>Interviews may include a second-round interview and a sample lesson. </li></ul> <p>For More Information:</p> <p>For more information, please contact Pupil Services at 860-824-5639.</p> <p>Regional School District No. 1 provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
