<p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the general supervision of a assigned supervisor at the Waste Treatment Plants/Flood Control/Sewer Lift Stations Service Centers in the Public Works Division. Provides machine shop support in repairing, fabricating and manufacturing parts for industrial machinery. Determines worn or defective parts and makes necessary repairs to machinery which includes replacing broken or worn parts and identifying and selecting material types and/or grades. Interprets blueprints/manuals to determine the location, size and type of parts. Maintains blueprints of repaired or manufactured parts. Utilizes the following equipment: lathes milling machines, drill press, grinders, hydraulic press, band saws, cutoff saws, various welding equipment such as M. I.G., T.I.G., S.M.A.W., oxygen/acetylene equipment, hand tools, power tools and precision tools such as inside micrometers, outside micrometers, depth micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, gages and layout tools.</p> <p>OTHER FUNCTIONS: 1. Perform other functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.</p> <p>TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to read and work from blueprints and manufacturer's manuals. Requires visual and physical inspections of mechanical equipment systems. Requires walking, heavy lifting, stooping, balancing crouching, reaching and ability to climb ladders and stairs.</p> <p>TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: May be exposed to fumes, odors, poor ventilation and changing weather conditions.</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduate or equivalent with four (4) years of experience working in a machine shop environment as a machinist, or equivalent combination of technical training in machine shop and experience working as a machinist, or possess a journeyman license as a machinist. Must possess a valid driver's license and must maintain a machining tolerance of .0005 as a condition of employment.</p> <p>The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the EXECEPTION of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
