<p>UPPER ARLINGTON CITY SCHOOLS</p> <p>Position: Media Specialist</p> <p>Location: Tremont ES</p> <p>Licensure: P-12 Teaching License w/Teaching Field Library/Media Specialist</p> <p>FTE: 1</p> <p>Reports to: Building Principal</p> <p>FLSA Status: Exempt</p> <p>Employment Status: Regular/Full-time</p> <p>Description: Plan and implement library/media center programs, instruct students in library skills and literature appreciation, maintain and extend the collection, coordinate efforts of all who use the library/media center.</p> <p>NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Valid Ohio certification/licensure as a librarian/media specialist </li><li>Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ability and willingness to work with and make modifications for special needs students</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to operate and maintain library equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work effectively with others</p> </li><li> <p>Effective, active listening skills</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of general and specialized reference materials</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of library science and applications</p> </li><li> <p>Organizational and problem solving skills</p> </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ensure safety of students</p> </li><li> <p>Plan and implement activities to complement classroom teaching and the curriculum</p> </li><li> <p>Develop policies and procedures for the library/media center which correspond with the environment and expectations of the school</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain library/media center statistics and records and provide reports of usage as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Organize facilities to meet the needs of the patrons</p> </li><li> <p>Train, coordinate, and direct the tasks of the media center clerk(s) and/or secretary assigned to the library/media center</p> </li><li> <p>Recruit, organize, and train any volunteers needed to keep the library/media center functioning smoothly</p> </li><li> <p>Select, evaluate, and maintain materials and equipment to meet the needs of the curriculum</p> </li><li> <p>Provide library/media skills instruction and literature appreciation to the students as indicated in the adopted Library Media Curriculum Guide</p> </li><li> <p>Help teachers plan and implement activities where students and teachers need to use the library/media center</p> </li><li> <p>Acquaint the school community with the proper use of the library/media center by providing orientation programs, school newsletters, and/or fliers to help new users</p> </li><li> <p>Provide individual instruction as needed</p> </li><li> <p>Develop and manage the approved library center budget and associated programs</p> </li><li> <p>Promote library/media center materials, programs, and services</p> </li><li> <p>Cooperate with the public library whenever possible</p> </li><li> <p>Encourage community involvement in the library/media program through use of volunteers in daily library/media center activities and/or special events</p> </li><li> <p>Attend meetings and in-services as required</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain overall supervision of system for classifying and cataloging all media in the district's media learning centers</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain proper order of media center collection</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain respect at all times for confidential information</p> </li><li> <p>Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents</p> </li></ul> <p>Other Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner</p> </li><li> <p>Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships</p> </li><li> <p>Attend professional growth seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issues</p> </li><li> <p>Counsel, advise, encourage, and motivate students</p> </li><li> <p>Interact with other departments and school personnel when necessary</p> </li><li> <p>Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal</p> </li></ul> <p>Equipment Operated:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Binding machine</p> <p>Television/DVD player</p> </li><li> <p>Various audio, video and computer technology and equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Various office machines</p> </li></ul> <p>Additional Working Conditions:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue</p> </li><li> <p>Occasional interaction among unruly children</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 25 pounds, e.g., paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently move and position self as necessary to access and operate equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently move around workspace and travel throughout school building and/or school district</p> </li></ul> <p>Employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance, use
