<p>Director of Finance and Operations Reports to: Executive Director Education: Bachelor's degree (related field preferred) Certification: Must obtain MCPPO Certification within one year of hire</p> <p>Experience: Substantial experience in finance/accounting with progressive leadership demonstrated Position Overview</p> <p>The Director of Finance and Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring the fiscal health, operational effectiveness, and compliance of the organization. This position provides strategic oversight of financial performance, human resources, facilities, technology, and key school operations, working in close partnership with the Executive Director, Board of Trustees, and leadership team. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with the ability to think strategically about the school's long-term financial health, including capital planning, multi-year projections, and salary modeling to support decision-making and negotiations.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p>Financial Performance, Oversight, and Compliance</p> <ul> <li>Ensure the organization is managed in a fiscally responsible and transparent manner. </li><li>Develop, manage, and reconcile the annual and long-term budgets. </li><li>Create and maintain multi-year financial projections to inform strategic planning and sustainability. </li><li>Lead capital planning efforts, including long-term facilities and technology investments. </li><li>Build and maintain salary and compensation models to support teacher contract negotiations and workforce planning. </li><li>Responsible for payroll, MTRS reporting, and employee benefits administration. </li><li>Manage financial systems, including Frontline (Absence/Time & Attendance) and Emburse procurement. </li><li>Handle all banking transactions: transfers, deposits, and reconciliations. </li><li>Responsible for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and the General Ledger. </li><li>Manage asset tracking, monthly depreciation entries, and all leasing/purchasing activities. </li><li>Administer and monitor entitlement grants and other funding sources: applications, amendments, reporting, monthly drawdowns, and compliance. </li><li>Maintain accurate general ledger and financial statements, including journal entries and accruals. </li><li>Conduct financial analyses and prepare detailed financial reports for leadership and the Board. </li><li>Ensure compliance with DESE, state/federal financial regulations, charter school policies, and financial legislation. </li><li>Manage all insurance policies: liability, workers' compensation, medical, dental, vision, and voluntary benefits. </li><li>Provide financial oversight of all program budgets (e.g., Food Service, Athletics, Enrichment, After-School Clubs, Homework Club, Summer Programming). </li><li>Prepare for and manage the annual audit, liaising with auditors, responding to questions and comments. </li><li>Support the Finance Committee and Board of Trustees: provide reports, analysis, and presentations; attend all Finance Committee meetings and Board meetings as required. </li><li>Deliver timely updates on the organization's financial status to the Executive Director, leadership team, and other stakeholders. </li><li>Support union negotiations with accurate financial data, including salary modeling and projections. </li></ul> <p>Operations Management</p> <p>Oversee the day-to-day work of the Operations Team, including:</p> <ul> <li>Information Technology - network, workstations, website management </li><li>Human Resources - policies/procedures, compliance, benefits, and risk management </li><li>Facilities - maintenance, long-term planning, and management </li><li>School Operations - transportation, food service, campus supports </li><li>Enrollment/Admissions - state reporting, policies, and processes </li><li>Administrative Services - reception and support staff </li></ul> <p>Skills and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Previous experience working in a charter school or educational environment is highly desirable. </li><li>Strong background in finance, accounting, capital planning, and operations management. </li><li>Demonstrated expertise in developing financial projections, modeling teacher salaries and compensation scenarios, and contributing to long-term strategic planning. </li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word required; additional software experience preferred. </li><li>Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and organized self-starter. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to complete tasks accurately and on time. </li><li>Ability to pass CORI, SORI, and fingerprint background checks. </li></ul>
