<p>Under the direction and supervision of the Associate Dean and Dean of Advanced Technologies and Skilled Trades, the Instructor is responsible for developing and implementing courses in the Automotive Technology (or other related Transportation programs). These courses take place in a classroom/laboratory setting as well as online/laboratory (hybrid) format. This is a full-time regular position.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>The instructor is responsible for writing course objectives, implementing appropriate teaching strategies, advising students, monitoring and evaluating student progress, and keeping accurate and timely student records. Teaching assignments for this position include, but are not limited to, various aspects of Automotive (or other Transportation-related programs) repair and maintenance with a focus on late model products.</p> <ul> <li>Provide instruction and develop courses in assigned subject areas. </li><li>Practice and encourage safety. </li><li>Provide instruction to a diverse student population according to the objectives of each course in the Automotive Technology program, and/or the Transportation Division. </li><li>This instructor will utilize a variety of instructional strategies in the classroom/laboratory that include, but are not limited to, lecture, small groups, indoor and outdoor demonstrations, and laboratory activities. Lab activities may include "mock up" components as well as "live" work on public customer or College-owned vehicles and equipment. </li><li>Prepare and administer student evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress in a timely manner. </li><li>Remain current in events and developments related to the subject area. Increase and improve personal teaching and subject knowledge through supplemental sources such as in-service activities, conferences, workshops, technical updates, and personal self-study. </li><li>Participate in division and college meetings and committees. </li><li>Participate in program Workforce Leadership Team (WLT) meetings. </li><li>Maintain the security of College vehicles, equipment, facilities, and materials. </li><li>Serves as an Academic Advisor for students. Tasks included in this area are: advising students on their academic progress, courses needed for graduation, and division/college policies and procedures; and generally serve as the first line of communication between students and the college staff. </li><li>Develop/Revise Course Curriculum and Educational Materials: Develop and/or revise course objectives, content, descriptions, and instructional strategies on the approved college curriculum form. In addition, the instructor will develop, revise, and maintain classroom/laboratory policies, grading structures, and strategies. This instructor will review, evaluate, and recommend textbooks for course use. </li><li>Function as a Member of the Automotive Technology program, Transportation Division, ATST Division, Instructional Division, and SCC teams. </li><li>Interact with colleagues, students, staff, and supervisors in a manner that will project a positive image of the program and the College, and which promotes/facilitates instructional services such as recruitment, placement, and orientation as assigned. This includes support of SCC Policies, Goals, and Strategic Plans. </li><li>Maintain and upgrade the Automotive Technology classroom/laboratory instructional facilities and equipment. Responsible for verifying maintenance of facilities and equipment to ensure that it is kept in safe and proper working order for student use. </li><li>Individualized Development Plan (New Instructors): Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction or his/her designee. </li></ul> <p>Promote a Culture of Belonging</p> <p>Support and promote an environment of belonging where all students, faculty members, and college employees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to contribute. Support the College's policies and programming related to access, fair employment, and equal opportunities for all.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Associate degree in an Automotive Technology (or closely related field) from an accredited college or university. </li><li>Two (2) years of experience in the automotive field related to the area of Automotive Technology. </li><li>Must currently hold or must obtain ASE Certification in areas of instruction plus G1, within six (6) months of hire. </li><li>Must currently hold or must obtain ASE Master Automobile Service Technician within two (2) years of hire. </li></ul> <p>Zone 5</p>
