<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Office of Residential Life at SUNY Cobleskill is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Residence Hall Director. This full-time, 10.5-month professional role reports to an Assistant Director or Associate Director of Residential Life and offers a unique opportunity to provide leadership and direct oversight within one or more campus residence halls. The Residence Hall Director (RHD) is responsible for fostering an inclusive, safe, and engaging living environment that supports student success. This is a live-on position with on-call responsibilities, including after-hours, weekend, and holiday coverage during the academic year.</p> <p>Position Overview:</p> <p>At SUNY Cobleskill, our Residential Life team includes a Director, an Associate Director, two Assistant Directors, and multiple Residence Hall Directors. Each RHD is directly responsible for the general operation and community development within their assigned residential area, which typically houses 150-200 students. Residence Hall Directors provide supervision, training, and mentoring for undergraduate student staff, including Resident Assistants and Night Hosts. The RHD plays a crucial role in student engagement, crisis response, occupancy management, and residential programming, ensuring a supportive and vibrant on-campus living experience.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <p>Community Development & Student Engagement:</p> <ul> <li>Create a welcoming and inclusive residential environment that promotes student learning and personal development. </li><li>Facilitate and support academic, cultural, and social initiatives for residential students in alignment with institutional goals. </li><li>Serve as a mentor and resource to students, providing guidance on academic and personal matters. </li><li>Promote residential curriculum initiatives that enhance the student experience and engagement. </li></ul> <p>Supervision & Staff Development:</p> <ul> <li>Recruit, train, and supervise a team of undergraduate Resident Assistants (RAs) and Night Hosts. </li><li>Conduct regular one-on-one and team meetings to ensure staff are effectively supporting students. </li><li>Foster leadership development among student staff and provide ongoing performance evaluations and professional growth opportunities. </li></ul> <p>Crisis Response & Student Support:</p> <ul> <li>Serve in a rotating on-call duty system, responding to student crises, behavioral concerns, and emergency situations. </li><li>Mediate roommate conflicts and provide nonclinical counseling and support for students in distress. </li><li>Collaborate with campus resources such as Counseling Services, University Police, and the Student Conduct Office to ensure appropriate student interventions and referrals. </li></ul> <p>Administrative & Operational Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Oversee the general management of an assigned residential area, including occupancy reports, room change processes, and housing assignments. </li><li>Conduct health and safety inspections, manage work orders, and coordinate residence hall openings and closings. </li><li>Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student conduct, facilities, and engagement initiatives. </li><li>Assist in departmental assessment efforts, including evaluating the effectiveness of residential programs and services. </li></ul> <p>Conduct & Policy Enforcement:</p> <ul> <li>Educate students on residential policies and expectations, fostering a culture of accountability and respect. </li><li>Adjudicate low-level student conduct cases and assign developmental sanctions in accordance with the College's student conduct process. </li><li>Support a safe and secure living environment through consistent policy enforcement and intervention strategies. </li></ul> <p>Collaboration & Campus Involvement:</p> <ul> <li>Act as a liaison between Residential Life and other campus departments, including Student Conduct, Career Development, Wellness, and Student Activities. </li><li>Serve on departmental and campus-wide committees to support student success initiatives. </li><li>Engage in professional development opportunities and contribute to the overall mission of the Student Development Division. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree by time of appointment. </li><li>One to three years of experience in higher education, preferably in residential life, student affairs, or a related field. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. </li><li>Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Ability to respond to crises and participate in an on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. </li><li>Ability to climb stairs, conduct rounds, and physically respond to calls across campus. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>In addition to the aforementioned minimum qualifications, it is preferred the candidate also have:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field. </li><li>Previous live-in experience in a residence hall setting. </li><li>Experience in student learning, development, and programming within a residential community. </li><li>Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Maxient, eRezLife, and Ellucian Banner. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <ul> <li>This is an SL-2 position with a salary of $41,328. </li><li>A furnished apartment within a residence hall is provided, and a meal plan is available when dining services are in operation. </li><li>Schedule </li><li>This position offers full New York State benefits which are some of the most comprehensive in the country. </li><li>SUNY Cobleskill is committed to providing a safe and productive learning and living community for our students and employees.
