<p>NOTICE OF VACANCY Adjustment Counselor Brimfield Elementary School Anticipated Start Date: August 27, 2025</p> <p>Reports to: Principal, Special Education Director</p> <p>Primary Role: The School Adjustment Counselor maximizes educational opportunities by teaching student's problem-solving skills, conflict resolution, and coping strategies. The adjustment counselor works with students who struggle socially, emotionally, or behaviorally, helping them to manage those challenges and be available for learning.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Identify and assess academic and behavioral concerns through analysis of factors impacting student adjustment including factors in the home, school, and community. Assist students in identifying, modifying and/or changing behavior that interferes with achievement and school adjustment </li><li>Provide direct services to students on IEPs, 504 Plans or Student Support Plans who require counseling in order to access the curriculum. </li><li>Fulfill special education responsibilities including: being an active member of the evaluation team, completing home assessment(s) and participating in the Team Meetings, facilitating meetings, and writing IEP/504's. </li><li>Participate in building SST Process </li><li>Develop/implement measurable goals and objectives addressing student's emotional needs (related to school adjustment). </li><li>Provide strategies, support and resources to assist teachers in managing social/emotional issues in their classroom </li><li>Collaborate with school staff and other school district personnel in implementing strategies to promote student learning </li><li>Provide crisis intervention services </li><li>Conduct classroom meetings, psycho-educational social skills groups, and classroom presentations on identified areas of concern for students </li><li>Familiarity with Social Thinking and Restorative Practices </li><li>Participate as a member of the school-based team to develop interventions for promoting students academic success </li><li>Serve as a liaison between families and the school to positively promote a collaborative process in educational planning for students by encouraging family participation in the school setting </li><li>Determine and implement appropriate therapeutic strategies to effect changes in behavioral and social interactions of students and their families </li><li>Complete all reports in relation to IEP goals and progress monitoring for students with special needs </li><li>Consult/collaborate with outside agencies and hospitals, Refer students and/or families to appropriate community agencies </li><li>Support transition of students back to school (communication with teachers, support plans, etc) </li><li>Other duties may be assigned </li></ul> <p>Qualifications/Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Valid Massachusetts DESE Adjustment Counselor Licensure additionally a valid MA DESE School Psychologist Licensure preferred </li><li>Master's Degree in a mental health or related discipline </li><li>Experience treating children with significant behavioral and emotional challenges. </li><li>Approved CORI and Fingerprinting results </li></ul> <p>Brian Ledbetter, Principal Brimfield Elementary School 22 Wales Road Brimfield, MA 01010 ledbetterb@tantasqua.org</p> <p>POSTED: 8-19-25 APPLICATION DEADLINE: 9/4/25</p> <p>Tantasqua Regional/Union 61 Districts are committed to maintaining a work and learning environment free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, pregnancy, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital/civil union status, ancestry, place of birth, age, citizenship status, veteran status, political affiliation, genetic information or disability, as defined and required by state and federal laws.
