<p>Definition</p> <p>The selected candidate will work as an Engineer-In-Training in the Division of Traffic Management's Traffic Studies section. The duties include performing and assisting with the review of traffic studies including traffic signal requests and signage issues, analysis of crash data, and helping to implement Vision Zero strategies and other safety related efforts.</p> <p>For more information about the Department of Public Service please visit the following:https://www.columbus.gov/Government/Departments/Public-Service</p> <p>Vision Zero: https://vision-zero-columbus.hub.arcgis.com/</p> <p>Examples of Work</p> <p>(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)</p> <p>Prepares and reviews engineering plans and designs for structures, facilities, or systems;</p> <p>Prepares and reviews reports and studies to identify and recommend engineering solutions;</p> <p>Prepares proposals and specifications for new construction and facilities repair projects;</p> <p>Reviews construction documents as a plans examiner trainee for compliance with building and other codes;</p> <p>Tabulates and evaluates bids on small projects; determines adequacy of various materials used in the projects;</p> <p>Learns to prepare estimates of costs and quantities of supplies and equipment necessary for construction; learns to test and examine equipment;</p> <p>Makes site inspections of work; tests and evaluates equipment and materials currently in use;</p> <p>Prepares technical reports and support data;</p> <p>Consults with contractors; interprets contract specifications;</p> <p>Designs small systems and work order plans;</p> <p>Utilizes database management and analytic tools such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to manage data and to review and generate maps;</p> <p>May observe construction and provide recommendations concerning construction activities;</p> <p>May attend review meetings with in-house and outsourced providers;</p> <p>May supervise subordinate staff engaged in performing paraprofessional engineering work;</p> <p>May assign work to drafting personnel for completed working drawings of proposed project.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Possession of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.</p> <p>Possession of a valid driver's license.</p> <p>Specialization in the discipline for which appointment is being made may be required for some positions and will be incorporated in the job postings, as appropriate.</p> <p>Test/Job Contact Information</p> <p>Recruitment #: 26-1029-V2</p> <p>Employment Type: Full-Time (Regular)</p> <p>Should you have questions regarding this vacancy, please contact:</p> <p>Alexander Zillner</p> <p>Department of Public Service</p> <p>Division of Traffic Management</p> <p>111 N Front Street / 7th Floor</p> <p>Columbus, Ohio 43215</p> <p>P: (614) 645-6470</p> <p>E:ajzillner@columbus.gov</p> <p>The City of Columbus is an Equal Opportunity Employer</p>
