<p>To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform their essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed in this document represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>Incumbent serves as First Deputy Clerk for Voter Registration and is responsible for registering voters and maintaining voter registration documents.</p> <p>DUTIES:</p> <ul> <li>Registers new voters by entering required information into a computer terminal, on precinct cards, office cards, and other appropriate forms received from city, county, state, and federal agencies and precinct committee people. </li><li>Processes transfers and name changes of registered voters who have moved by entering new information into a computer terminal and typing on precinct cards, office cards, and other appropriate forms received from city, county, state, and federal agencies and precinct committee persons. </li><li>Certify signatures on petitions filed by prospective candidates by verifying that the signee is a registered voter in the correct ward and precinct in the County. </li><li>Maintains all precinct voter lists by deleting the names of persons who are no longer eligible due to death or change of residence outside the County or felony (disfranchisement). Purge voters from the computer, precinct files, and office files as Federal Law requires. </li><li>Maintains voter records, alphabetically in office files and by precinct in books. Files all voter records for convenient retrieval. Records vote records after the election in computer terminals, office record cards, and other appropriate records. Track all applications, cancellations, and report totals to the State Election Commission. </li><li>Types registration forms, transfer cards, door-to-door listings, and other related documents, as required. </li><li>Assists absentee personnel in verifying if a voter is registered. </li><li>Change address information on the computer terminal, in precinct books, and in record bins. Answer telephones and greet office visitors. Determine the nature of calls, respond to inquiries, and/or route callers to the appropriate person or department. </li><li>Verifies party voting history of individuals seeking partisan employment in the County. </li><li>Assists in updating appropriate changes in voter lists to coincide with new precinct boundaries established by the County or cities, and effects changes on computer terminal, office records, and precinct records. </li><li>Supervises and assists departmental subordinate employees in the absence of the Board Member, including instructing new employees on standard office procedures and routines. Perform duties of the Board Member in the Board Member's absence. </li><li>Assemble door-to-door packets. Aid door-to-door personnel in distributing packets to precinct people. Enter processed door-to-door registrations in the computer terminal. </li><li>Addresses and prepares receipt cards for mailing, as needed. </li><li>Proofs the ten-day run list with precinct books. </li><li>Performs minor housekeeping duties, as needed. </li><li>Performs related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>I. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of standard office procedures and routines, and ability to apply office abilities and skills to department operations. </li><li>Working knowledge of voter registration and Indiana voting laws and regulations, and ability to effectively impart factual information to co-workers and the public. </li><li>public. </li><li>Knowledge of County townships and area streets, and ability to read County maps. </li><li>Ability to use and load modern office equipment, such as a computer terminal, printer, and copier. </li><li>Ability to type with speed and accuracy. </li><li>Ability to assign tasks and direct the work of subordinates and to deal courteously, effectively, and tactfully with co-workers and members of the public. </li><li>Ability to work overtime as directed or needed. </li></ul> <p>II. RESPONSIBILITY:</p> <p>The incumbent receives general work instructions and follows the specific procedures for voter registration laws and regulations to complete assigned tasks correctly. Errors in decision-making may result in a loss of time in the Department and some embarrassment for a public member. Work product is reviewed at critical phases and upon completion.</p> <p>III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:</p> <p>Incumbent must courteously, effectively, and tactfully communicate with co-workers and the public for the purpose of explaining and interpreting voter registration laws and procedures and Indiana voting laws.</p> <p>Reports directly to their Voter Registration Board member.</p> <p>IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>The incumbent performs duties in a modern office environment and must climb stairs, lift boxes, ledger books, and other items weighing approximately 50 pounds.</p>
