<p>Faculty 9 Month English</p> <p>Salary: Commensurate with Experience</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Hocking College invites applications for a full-time, 9-month faculty position in English</p> <p>Composition. The successful candidate will teach first-year composition and additional</p> <p>related writing/communication courses, contributing to the College's mission of</p> <p>providing accessible, high-quality education that supports student success. The faculty</p> <p>member will employ innovative, student-centered pedagogy; support diverse learners,</p> <p>including first-generation and non-traditional students; and engage in departmental and</p> <p>institutional service. Instructional responsibilities may include face-to-face, online,</p> <p>hybrid, and evening/weekend courses (limited, but as needed).</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>Teach assigned courses in first-year composition and additional related</p> <p>writing/communications studies, using effective, evidence-based pedagogy.</p> <p>Prepare syllabi, update course materials, and design student-centered learning</p> <p>experiences aligned with institutional outcomes.</p> <p>Provide regular feedback on student writing and maintain high standards of</p> <p>academic excellence.</p> <p>Advise students, maintain office hours, and provide academic support as</p> <p>needed.</p> <p>Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and program review</p> <p>activities.</p> <p>Contribute to departmental and college initiatives, committees, and service</p> <p>opportunities.</p> <p>Stay current with best practices in writing pedagogy, instructional technology, and</p> <p>culturally responsive teaching.</p> <p>Support the mission and values of Hocking College through teaching, service,</p> <p>and community engagement.</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>Master's degree in English, Rhetoric & Composition, Writing Studies, Technical</p> <p>Communication, Creative Writing, Linguistics, Literature, Curriculum &</p> <p>Instruction, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.</p> <p>At least 18 graduate semester hours in English, Rhetoric & Composition, or</p> <p>closely related coursework.</p> <p>Demonstrated experience teaching college-level composition and writing</p> <p>(minimum of two years preferred, including at least one year in higher education).</p> <p>Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., syllabi, student evaluations, feedback</p> <p>on writing, or peer observations).</p> <p>Ability to teach across multiple modalities (face-to-face, online, hybrid, day,</p> <p>evening, or weekend).</p> <p>Strong written and oral communication skills.</p> <p>Commitment to equity-minded and inclusive teaching practices that support</p> <p>diverse learners.</p> <p>Proficiency with instructional technologies, Microsoft Office, and learning</p> <p>management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, or equivalent).</p> <p>Desired Qualifications</p> <p>Terminal Degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or MFA) in English, Rhetoric & Composition,</p> <p>Writing Studies, or a closely related field.</p> <p>Graduate coursework in Rhetoric & Composition pedagogy.</p> <p>Experience in integrating the use of AI into an English Composition curriculum.</p> <p>Experience teaching developmental, multilingual, or technical writing in addition</p> <p>to first-year composition.</p> <p>Community college or open-access institution teaching experience.</p> <p>Familiarity with outcomes-based assessment and first-year writing program</p> <p>initiatives.</p> <p>Demonstrated record of service, curriculum development, or professional</p> <p>engagement in writing pedagogy.</p> <p>Evidence of innovative, student-centered teaching and use of culturally</p> <p>responsive pedagogy.</p> <p>Application Materials</p> <p>Applicants should submit the following materials for full consideration:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Cover letter addressing qualifications and teaching philosophy.</p> </li><li> <p>Curriculum Vitae (CV) including education, teaching experience, and</p> </li></ol> <p>professional activities.</p> <ol start="3"> <li> <p>Three professional references with complete contact information.</p> </li><li> <p>Unofficial transcripts of graduate coursework (official transcripts will be</p> </li></ol> <p>required upon hire).</p> <p>Incomplete applications may not be considered.</p>
