<p>The Obstetrics and Gynecology physician provides health assessment and direct care to obstetrics and gynecology patients as part of the provider team providing services to St. Joseph Health's (SJH) patients.</p> <p>Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospitalist Duties and Responsibilities (12 hour shifts)</p> <ul> <li>Care for unassigned inpatient OB and GYN patients </li><li>Provide triage and / or OB ED services </li><li>Provide GYN consultations for hospitalized patients and the Emergency Department </li><li>Oversee residents, fellows, midwives or advanced practice nurses </li><li>Provide call coverage and L&D support: interpretation of EFM strips, stand-by for deliveries, perform delivery and monitoring of laboring patients for private OBs </li><li>Serve as MFM extenders </li><li>Surgically assist for other OBs or gynecologists </li></ul> <p>General Obstetrics and Gynecology attending physician Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Provides general primary obstetric and gynecological care using generally accepted standards of practice. The physician develops a plan of care for each patient, including complete history, physical examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment and /or referral, uses all available resources in an appropriate and cost efficient manner. </li><li>Hospitalizes as needed any patient requiring in-patient care. Provides obstetric and gynecological care according to accepted ACOG standards during the hospitalization. </li><li>Confers with consulting physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, support staff, patients, and families concerning treatment and care of patients. Makes appropriate specialty and sub-specialty referrals, but maintains responsibility, assuring continuing of care. </li><li>Perform general gynecological and obstetric surgical procedures, both diagnostic and therapeutic, using both minimally invasive and traditional surgical techniques. </li><li>Physician will enter into Collaborative agreements with SJH midlevel providers including midwives. </li><li>Participates in health promotion/disease prevention activities. Stresses the importance of preventive health care measures. </li><li>Supports mid-level providers in supervision and consultation. </li><li>Participates in quality improvement/assurance activities. </li><li>Attends and participates in SJH activities as requested. </li><li>Attends mandatory in-services and Employer meetings. </li><li>Completes records in adequate professional detail, and in a timely manner using electronic medical record (EMR) system. </li><li>Maintains and acquires knowledge and skills to perform required duties to meet all hospital, state, organizational and licensure requirements. </li><li>Abides by the Employer Obstetrics Department protocols and guidelines. </li><li>Other duties as assigned by the Chairman, and/or Vice President of Physician Services, to meet the goal of providing excellent health care. </li></ul> <p>St. Joseph's Health is recognized for the expertise and compassion of its highly skilled and responsive staff.
