<p>The Naturalist 3 - Parks and Recreation will assist with daily operations of the Nature Center including developing and coordinating, presenting, and marketing environmental education programming and helping to oversee and carry out maintenance of the facility, grounds & trails and natural resources of the park. This position also revolves supervising staff, seasonal employees, and volunteers. The incumbent will be expected to provide quality environmental education and responsible recreation, help to protect, preserve, restore, and manage the park ecosystem and natural resources, and raise awareness, foster respect, and build enthusiasm for the natural environment. </p> <p>Typical shift is Tuesday-Saturday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, but will be required to work other hours, including nights and Sundays, as needed </p> <ul> <li>Works to fulfill the mission of Metro Parks and to support the goals and objectives of the Natural Resources, Outdoor Recreation & Special Events division. </li><li>Manages facility in the absence of the Nature Center Manager. </li><li>Helps to ensures facilities and programs are well maintained, safe and accessible. </li><li>Organizes, coordinates, markets and implements programs involving environmental education, historical interpretation, research projects and outdoor recreation activities. </li><li>Researches, develops, and maintains exhibits brochures, flyers, and other promotional material. </li><li>Helps to organize and supervise volunteers and projects as directed by the Nature Center Manager. </li><li>Takes reservations, maintains records, and writes reports as directed by the Nature Center Manager. </li><li>Keeps current and implements current trends in environmental education, wildlife management, wildlife education, archeology, and natural resource management. </li><li>Helps maintain working relationship with Parks' friend's groups and a variety of mission similar organizations, agencies, schools, and other partners. </li><li>Serves as a resource for the department and division for matters related to the management of natural resources protection, public education efforts, and review of any proposed projects in the park. </li><li>Attends various departmental and community meetings. </li><li>Promotes public interest in the facility and programs. </li><li>Responds to public inquiries and complaints and provides information related to the operations and programming of the nature center and park. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Education, Recreation and Parks Administration, Natural Resources, Ecology, or a related field from an accredited college or university, and three (3) years of environmental, recreation, or related park administration experience.</p> <p>Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education</p> <p>LICENSES REQUIRED:</p> <p>Valid Driver License</p> <p>Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.</p> <p>Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.</p> <ul> <li>Experience supervising and managing volunteers </li><li>Ability to perform moderately physical work in remote and undeveloped outdoor areas, often accessible only by hiking off-trail </li><li>Experience using current trends and best practices in environmental education nature/interpretive center management, outdoor recreation and natural resource management </li><li>Experience with invasive plants and removal/management strategies preferred. </li></ul> <p>We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity at all levels.
