<p>JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>The primary function of the Medical Assistant (MA) is to provide direct and indirect support to the pediatric clinician in the safe and appropriate delivery of patient care. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The percentage of time is an estimate of the time spent on that particular function over the course of a year.</p> <p>Clinical Support (75%)</p> <ul> <li>Welcomes patients by greeting them in person or on the telephone; and answering or referring inquiries. </li><li>Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examination room; providing gowns and drapes; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. </li><li>Verifies patient information by interviewing the patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history, taking vital signs; and confirming the purpose of the visit or treatment. </li><li>Supports patient care delivery by helping providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies as directed/authorized by the attending provider; drawing blood; taking electrocardiograms; removing sutures; changing dressings. </li><li>Educates patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions; and answering questions. </li><li>Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results. </li><li>Generates revenues by recording billing information of services rendered; completing insurance forms; and responding to insurance and other third-party inquiries. </li><li>Performs venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks in accordance with policy and procedure and OSHA regulations. </li><li>Demonstrates knowledge and skills of "Age Specific Competency" relating to phlebotomy. </li><li>Prepares specimens in the pre-analytical stage of testing, computer entry, documentation, and follow-through. </li><li>Responsible for preparing specimens in the pre-analytical stage of laboratory testing. </li><li>Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; and verifying receipts. </li><li>Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; and calling for repairs. </li><li>Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations. </li><li>Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential. </li><li>Serves and protects the physician or healthcare provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and section 330 requirements. </li><li>Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations. </li><li>Enhances healthcare reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. </li><li>Provides patients with treatment plan estimates, lab orders, referrals if needed, clinical summaries, and reschedules patients at the end of patient visits. </li><li>Any additional clinical duties as directed by your Supervisor. </li></ul> <p>Patient Experience (20%)</p> <ul> <li>Provide excellent customer service </li><li>Assist patient and/or guardian with completing required forms (CHDP, registration, screening, etc.) </li><li>Provide patients with clinical summaries, lab orders, treatment plans, referrals as needed </li><li>Assist patient/ guardian with scheduling a follow-up appointment </li></ul> <p>Compliance (5%)</p> <ul> <li>Complete required trainings (universal precautions, blood-borne pathogens, risk management, safety drills, customer service, cultural sensitivity, etc) on a timely basis </li><li>Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping patient care information confidential </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <ul> <li>Fast-paced clinic environment. </li><li>Periodic travel between clinic sites. Must have current CDL and insurance. </li><li>Physical demands: Lifting, bending, reaching, pushing, carrying, sitting, standing, stooping down, vision corrected in normal range, hearing corrected in normal range. </li><li>Hazardous Conditions: Exposure to infectious diseases; potential exposure to physical violence. </li><li>Work Condition: 100% inside. </li><li>Exposed to: cold/heat controls, close contact with sick people, and some outdoor elements when walking from the file room to the clinic. </li><li>Machines, equipment, tools, and supplies used: computer, postage machine, fax, copier, calculator, multi-line phone system, and other administrative and medical equipment. </li><li>Multiple duties: All duties can be expected to be performed concurrently. Must be able to work under conditions of constant interruption and be able to stay on task. </li><li>This description is intended to provide only basic guidelines for meeting job requirements. Responsibilities, knowledge, skills, abilities, and working conditions may change as needs evolve. </li></ul> <p>Hours: Monday-Thursday 7:30 am-6 pm, Friday 8 am-5 pm clinic hours.</p> <p>8-hour shift. Occasional overtime.
