<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <ul> <li>Patrol assigned areas on foot, in a patrol vehicle, or by specialized means to ensure the safety and security of the people, buildings, and grounds. </li><li>Investigate crimes and other incidents as directed </li><li>Interact frequently with students, faculty, staff and visitors </li><li>Exercise police powers in a fair and equitable manner by making arrests, conducting searches, restraining violent persons, transporting persons under restraints and advising suspects of their constitutional rights. </li><li>Investigate traffic accidents on campus </li><li>Enforcement of traffic and safety laws and regulations </li><li>Perform related duties such as cooperating and sharing of information with other agencies </li><li>Officers are assigned on a rotating basis to one of the three shifts that may include weekends, nights, and holidays. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police, Command Staff, or Senior Command Staff. </li><li>Work actively with other areas of the college to ensure college collaboration, collegiality, civility and teamwork. </li></ul> <p>Additional/specialized duties may include the following:</p> <ul> <li>Assist in department programs and initiatives such as, but not limited to community engagement activities, critical incident training, and self-defense training. </li><li>MPTC Certified armorer and firearm safety instructor </li><li>MPTC Certified TASER instruction </li><li>MPTC Certified Defensive Tactics Instructor </li><li>Certified Child Passenger Safety Officer </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>All candidates must complete Peace Officer Standards and Training Committee (MPTC) approved basic training program. </li><li>All candidates must complete Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) approved physical and psychological fitness evaluation. </li><li>All final candidates must pass an examination approved by POST </li><li>All final candidates must successfully complete an interview administered by POST. </li><li>Good moral character and fit for employment in law enforcement as determined by POST. </li></ul> <p>Please be advised that not all the above requirements need to be met or satisfied prior to hire.</p> <ul> <li>At least 21 years old </li><li>High School diploma or GED equivalent </li><li>Massachusetts Class A License to Carry </li><li>Valid Massachusetts Driver's License </li><li>Ability to receive and retain MA POST Commission Certification and SSPO Warrant of Appointment, and must pass a required background check pursuant to M.G.L. c. 6E, § 4 as a condition of employment. </li><li>Ability to successfully complete a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) certified Recruit Officer Course (ROC) https://www.mass.gov/service-details/mptc-full-time-police-academies and receive and retain a Massachusetts Special State Police Warrant (SSPO) in accordance with MGL Chapter 22C, section 63; https://www.mass.gov/regulations/515-CMR-500-standards-of-skill-for-special-state-police-officers and applicable city and/or town special police authority as deemed necessary by the Massasoit Community College Police Department. </li><li>Applicants who completed an out-of-state recruit academy must apply for a permanent exemption through the Massachusetts State Police requirements - More information can be found here: https://www.mass.gov/how-to/request-an-exemption-or-temporary-waiver </li><li>Knowledge of police procedures and practices, the laws of arrest and criminal procedures. </li><li>Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to prepare written reports. </li><li>Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications as listed in Massachusetts Department of Human Resources Classification Specifications. </li><li>For a detailed job description please follow the link http://www.mass.edu/forfacstaff/classificationspecs/home.asp </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Graduation from an MPTC Full-Time Police Academy or SSPO Academy </li><li>Or completion of the Massachusetts Bridge Academy with eligibility for an MPTC waiver under 555 CMR 3.03 </li><li>Previous experience in law enforcement and knowledge of Massachusetts police procedures. </li><li>Experience in the use of police dispatch software, report writing software, and DCJIS technology. </li><li>Prior experience in campus law enforcement </li><li>Equivalency Statement: Applicants who do not meet the qualifications as stated above are encouraged to put in writing how their background and experience have prepared them for the responsibilities of this position. </li><li>Special Conditions for Eligibility: Please be aware that employment at the Massasoit Community College Police Department is contingent upon completion of a successful background check. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Position Status: Full-time benefitted, AFSCME Union position</p> <p>Hours: 40 hours per week, schedule will vary</p> <p>Salary: $2,662.75 biweekly/ $69,231.50 annually Grade 16, Step 7</p> <p>Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.</p> <p>Deadline to Apply: April 23, 2026</p> <p>Application Instructions:</p> <p>A cover letter and resume are required, please apply online.
