<p>General Description</p> <p>Performs supervisory field work overseeing crews related to the operation and maintenance of assigned area of responsibility, including coordinating and evaluating the work of crews. Work is performed under the direction of the Section Administrator.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <ul> <li>Supervises field crews to ensure that work is carried out and completed effectively, timely, and safely. </li><li>Plans daily work and ensures the availability of equipment, materials, and personnel needed to accomplish work in the field. </li><li>Ensures that field work is carried out according to work orders, plans, specifications, procedures and directives. </li><li>Communicates clearly and directly with crew members with respect to performance expectations, productivity, and accountability. </li><li>Ensures that all vehicles, equipment and tools are in workable and safe condition </li><li>Ensures regular inspection and scheduling of vehicles and equipment for maintenance with Fleet Division. </li><li>Performs basic administrative duties including memos, reports, daily logs and electronic correspondence. </li><li>Designs, sets-up and maintains traffic signs for road closures and detours (PW Operations Division). </li><li>Ensures safety of the assigned personnel and workplace in compliance with mandated federal and state governmental regulations. </li><li>Investigates accidents and problems associated within assigned work area. </li><li>Receives and investigates complaints and instructs new employees in safe and efficient procedures and methods. </li><li>Provides technical guidance to resolve problems as needed. </li><li>Participates in activities of the crew. </li></ul> <p>(These essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed. Employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned, including City-directed work assignments in the event of a declared emergency.)</p> <p>Knowledge/Skills/Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of application methods and techniques of the functions of assigned area. </li><li>Knowledge of the type and use of material and equipment of assigned area. </li><li>Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade and the ability to maintain safe working conditions. </li><li>Skill in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems. </li><li>Skill in using computers for data entry. </li><li>Skill in using computers for word processing and accounting purposes. </li><li>Ability and skill in the use and care of tools, materials and equipment used in the assigned trades to and perform heavy manual work as required. </li><li>Ability to plan, schedule, direct and supervise the work of field crews. </li><li>Ability to work overtime and be on call. </li><li>Ability to perform mathematical calculations. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively, both in person and in writing. </li><li>Ability to use a computer, keyboard and standard office equipment. </li><li>Ability to read and follow written instructions and understand and follow verbal instructions. </li><li>Ability to plan, organize and use mature judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions in accordance with established policy. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. </li><li>Ability to maintain work and productivity records, to collect and assemble work data and statistics and to prepare and present reports effectively, both orally and in writing. </li></ul> <p>Education, Experience, Licenses and Certifications</p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is preferred. </li><li>Five (5) years of relevant experience in public works, solid waste/recycling or construction. </li><li>One (1) year experience at supervisory level. </li></ul> <p>(A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)</p> <p>Licenses and Certifications:</p> <ul> <li>Must possess a valid State of Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License. </li><li>May be required to obtain a hazmat and tanker endorsement and a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License. </li><li>Public Works (Operations Division) must possess current certification of completion for Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic training. </li></ul> <p>Emergency Response Responsibility</p> <p>Every City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.</p> <p>The City of North Port, FL is an Affirmative Action/ADA and Equal Opportunity Employer.
