<p>RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of authorized administrators shall:</p> <ul> <li>Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music to pupils utilizing course of study adopted by the Westfield Public Schools and appropriate curriculum programs as resources in teaching individual course content. </li><li>Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. </li><li>Plan a balanced music program, and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time. </li><li>Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. </li><li>Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils. </li><li>Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances. </li><li>Evaluate each pupil's musical growth and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to the performance of the group. </li><li>Plan, rehearse, and direct pupils in musical programs for school and community. </li><li>Select and requisition books and instructional aides; maintain required inventory records. </li><li>Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress. </li><li>Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. </li><li>Cooperative with the school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions. </li><li>Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned. </li><li>Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs. </li><li>Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities. </li><li>Maintain professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities related to music </li><li>Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the superintendent of schools. </li></ul> <p>REPORTS TO: Building Principal Salary and terms of employment shall be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit A contract. Salary placement will be based on information contained in the application as submitted. Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation. This position subject to grant funding.</p>
