<p>School Adjustment Counselor uses individual and group interventions to promote the social/emotional well-being of students and to help students cope with personal and psychological issues that affect their school performance. Work with middle school guidance counselors in coordinating middle school clinical services to students, provide counseling services to students and families, and promote the ongoing development of each student's academic, personal/social, and career potential. Act as a liaison among family, school, and social agencies to obtain for families, individual children,and school personnel those services needed to support the social/emotional needs of students.</p> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ol> <li>Assists students in the smooth transition from middle school to high school. </li><li>Provides immediate interventions to students in crisis in a constructive, supportive, and nonjudgmental manner. </li><li>Provides individual and group counseling and mediation services for students and families. </li><li>Consults with staff and families in order to provide appropriate information and support services. </li><li>Assists families in addressing school-related problems and issues. </li><li>Provides consultation to staff and families regarding school behavioral issues and guidelines for positive change. </li><li>Coordinates referrals of students to outside agencies. </li><li>Consults with outside agencies to coordinate services and interventions and to provide and obtain necessary information in order to help students deal with economic, emotional, physical, and academic challenges. </li><li>Coordinates and/or contributes to pre-referral meetings. </li><li>Coordinates and/or contributes to parent and teacher meetings. </li><li>Contributes to Individualized Education Plan (IEP) development and implementation as assigned. </li><li>Conducts behavioral assessments as required. </li><li>Conducts home assessments as deemed appropriate. </li><li>Develops and implements school-wide interventions and classroom lessons as appropriate. </li><li>Works with guidance counselors to plan, implement, and revise the school counseling program. </li><li>Communicates with the Director of Student Services in order to meet the social/emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of Acushnet's special education students. </li><li>Performs any other duties as may be required by the building principal, Director of Student Services, or the Superintendent of Schools. </li></ol>
