<p>Position Information</p> <p>Job Title Part-time Faculty, User Experience Graduate Certificate Program Job Description Summary, Duties and Responsibilities, Required Qualifications and Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>The search will remain open until the position has been filled.</p> <p><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>____</strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></p> <p>Qualified candidates who are not selected for employment for fall semester 2024 will have their applications remain active for two (2) years should a future opportunity arise during the 2025-2026 instructional year, September 1, 2025-August 31, 2026.</p> <p>The Department of Professional and Public Writing in the Harrington School of Communication and Media and College of Arts and Sciences seeks part-time faculty to teach online graduate courses for the UX Graduate Certificate Program on a per-course basis. Areas of instruction include ethical foundations of UX design, UX research and methods, UX and microcopy writing, and interaction design.</p> <p>As the largest college at the University of Rhode Island, the College of Arts and Sciences brings together and supports undergraduate programs across the arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences. The College facilitates students' development into leaders and global citizens who think critically and creatively, communicate effectively, and participate actively in local and global communities.</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>A selected candidate will teach one (1) or two (2) courses in the Department of Professional and Public Writing. Courses are asynchronous and delivered in an accelerated 7-week format. Part-time faculty are not required to engage in research or service activities but must hold regular office hours and be available to assist students enrolled in their courses. They are expected to stay current in their fields of instruction and with pedagogical methods and instructional technologies. Online teaching requires certification and possibly training by the University. Courses are three (3) credits. Specific responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Delivering online lessons and assignments in UX Design principles, tools, and techniques through our course management platform (Brightspace) </li><li>Providing regular feedback, guidance, and mentoring support to students to facilitate their learning and skill development while conveying confidence in every student's ability to learn </li><li>Cultivating a collaborative and participatory online learning environment that values diversity of people, ideas, cultures, and forms of expression </li><li>Evaluating student performance and progress and providing timely assessment </li><li>Fostering a safe environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student's ability to learn </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Required:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Master's degree in technical communication or related field or a bachelor's degree and three (3) years of professional experience in areas such as UX research, UX analytics, UX writing and/or content design, usability and heuristic evaluation, accessibility, wireframing/prototyping, and/or content optimization and strategy.</p> </li><li> <p>Must have technical knowledge and proficiency in interaction design technologies (e.g., Figma) and the Adobe Suite, as well as remote collaboration tools.</p> </li></ol> <p>Preferred:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Teaching experience at the college level.</p> </li><li> <p>For candidates with master's degrees, professional experience in the field of UX.</p> </li></ol> <p>_<strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>__</strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></p> <p>The University of Rhode Island is an equal-opportunity employer committed to the principles of affirmative action.
