<p>Sizer School seeks a passionate, experienced school leader to implement and sustain best practices for curriculum, instruction, and assessment; to build positive supportive relationships with staff, students, and families; and to continue to build a positive, collaborative teaching and learning environment.</p> <p>Sizer School is a free public charter school in Fitchburg, welcoming 7-12th grade students from across North Central Massachusetts. Dedicated to student success,</p> <p>Our THINK-CARE-ACT mission drives a student-centered approach to learning coached by dedicated teachers; Our classes enable students to practice critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills through project-based learning experiences; Our school respects and celebrates the individuality and diversity of each of our community members; and Our graduates are productive citizens and lifelong learners.</p> <p>Core Competencies Leadership: Belief in Sizer and its mission; ability to "see the big picture" and develop goals accordingly; facility with data and an understanding of its uses and limitations; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; model flexible thinking and lead proactively; ability to create, motivate, and lead highly effective teams; ability to be self-directed in leadership and decision making Relationships: Demonstrated ability and desire to cultivate and sustain positive relationships with students, staff, and families; High-Quality Instruction: Thorough understanding of innovative, rigorous, and engaging curriculum, instruction, and assessment; demonstrated ability to support staff to implement best practices; Facilitation and Organization: Experience and ability to manage complex change; highly organized; excellent facilitation skills; and Communication: Ability to communicate effectively and consistently with families, staff, Board of Trustees, community, and other stakeholders.</p> <p>Major Responsibilities:</p> <p>Faithfulness to Charter Responsible for upholding and exemplifying the mission and vision of Sizer across domains including curriculum, instruction, and assessment; accountability; finance; and staffing. In collaboration with the Executive Director, ensures the implementation of the Accountability Plan and annual and long term strategic goals. Maintains and promotes a positive school identity.</p> <p>Academic Program Success Ensures high-quality curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Oversees academic program design, effectiveness, and modifications as needed to increase achievement and outcomes for all students. Consistently showcases high expectations for student behavior and invests staff and students in upholding these expectations. Supports, coaches, supervises, and evaluates teachers. Supervises and evaluates staff, including the Assistant Principal. Provides timely supervision and evaluation in alignment with state standards and the local Collaborative Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Establishes strategic direction and priorities for academic program success and effectively communicates this to a variety of stakeholders. Utilizes data from a variety of sources to determine program priorities annually and long term, and to improve organizational performance, educator effectiveness, and student learning. Works collaboratively with the Executive Director, Assistant Principal, Director of Special Education and ELL, and teams including Subject Area, Grade Level, and Student Services to best meet the needs of students. In collaboration with the Executive Director, Assistant Principal, and Director of Special Education and ELL and teams, ensures aligned, research-based best practices are in place across all domains, including curriculum, instruction, and assessment; student support, culture, and discipline. Plans, facilitates, and evaluates professional learning for the academic staff in collaboration with leadership and teaching teams. Provides teachers, counselors, parents, and students with support on academic student issues. Engages in regular, effective two-way, culturally proficient communication with families/guardians and stakeholders. Models this for others and effectively supports educators to do the same. Develops and maintains systems of data analysis to help the school use data to improve the quality of the overall academic and social programs and to inform school-wide decision making about student learning and achievement (e.g., MCAS, PSAT, iReady, IXL, department benchmarks, and other relevant sources). Recruits, hires, inducts, and develops teachers and staff in a way that supports high- quality and effective student-centered teaching and learning. Plans and implements the overall program for supporting new teachers. Provides supports and resources for new teachers as needed, particularly best practices, classroom management, etc. Creates a safe and supportive environment to foster trust needed for non-evaluative discourse. Provides oversight of the Sizer School scheduling process and execution. Leads collaborative processes to create, implement, and regularly adjust a master schedule and related systems.</p> <p>Organizational Viability Supports the Executive Director in setting annual goals and reporting on accountability. Contributes to budget and grants planning and allocation at the direction of the Executive Director. Understands and manages, in coordination with internal teams, compliance for Charter Renewal and Accountability, Coordinated Program Reviews, and Annual Reports. In collaboration with the Assistant Principal, develops and executes effective plans, procedures, routines, and operational systems to address a full range of safety and the emotional and social needs of students. Provides oversight for systems, plans, procedures, and routines that empower students and staff to implement orderly and efficient student entry, dismissal, meals, class transitions, and community meetings. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director</p> <p>Qualifications Master's degree in Education, Administration, or related field Massachusetts School Principal License 3-5 years of teaching experience and 2 or more years of administrative experience at the middle/high school level Demonstrated experience working with diverse, urban populations. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, belonging, inclusion and equity. SEI Administrator Endorsement, or ability to earn endorsement within a year. Ability to pass CORI and National Criminal Background check.</p>
