<p>Purpose: The Director of Special Education and Student Services will report directly to the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Pupil & Personnel Services, and the Executive Director of Special Education and Student Services. Co-directors will collaborate with other directors, school principals, assistant principals, families and other members of the RPS community to ensure that programs under their supervision are properly implemented and audited. Their primary function is to bridge the special education program and non-special education programs across disciplines, create and ensure a strong central office-school partnership, and ensure the smooth operation of the Special Education department.</p> <p>Qualifications: The Director of Student Services (Grades 6 - Post Grad) will possess a master's or higher degree from an accredited college or university and will show evidence of at least three years satisfactory full-time experience in the classroom. If an RPS employee, they must have completed RBT's Studying Skillful Teaching or Understanding Teaching I or Ribas & Associates' Teaching to All Learners. They must be licensed in or licensable by the DESE in Special Education Administration and must be willing to attend Observing and Analyzing Teaching (OAT1) during the summer or fall. Among the qualifications to be considered are: knowledge of curriculum development; demonstration of effective program development; experience delivering curriculum to special education students; knowledge of testing requirements for student evaluations; general experience in special education; experience teaching special education; experience completing special education testing and knowledge of Circuit Breaker and Medicaid as they apply to special education; knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws as they apply to special education, ability to work with teachers, support personnel and administrators; knowledge of special education issues and challenges; professional activities and involvement; ability to express one's self and to articulate educational issues and concerns; personality and general demeanor. Also, the candidate must be adept at working with people to achieve common goals and should be able to interpret and initiate intricate directions and guidelines from federal and state regulations with regard to special education.</p> <p>Work Year, Salary, and Benefits:</p> <ul> <li>Subject to the Revere Administrators' Association Collective Bargaining Agreement oFull-Time, 208 ½ days oSalary Range/Grade: RTA Base Pay +RAA Administrative Differential </li></ul> <p>Roles & Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Assist in the management of SPECs, occupational/physical therapists, speech/language pathologists, and special educators at all levels </li><li>Complete necessary applications and paperwork for Medicaid reimbursement and Circuit Breaker allotments </li><li>Write and submit grant applications and manage spending of all accounts </li><li>Coordinate all Special Education paraprofessionals and their professional development programs </li><li>Assist in the placement of students </li><li>Evaluate and assure program quality through educator evaluation and curriculum alignment </li><li>Coordinate transportation for students as required by IEPs </li><li>Supervise programs of students who are assigned to outplacement schools </li><li>Create and lead Professional Learning for Special Educators </li><li>Plan UDL and curriculum Professional Development </li><li>Partner with SEPAC (planning, increasing family engagement, etc.) </li><li>Participate in Team Meetings as appropriate </li><li>Coordinate with EL Department around supporting students receiving dual services </li><li>Collaborate with and support Special Education Coaches around student cases, increasing family engagement, etc. </li><li>Advise and collaborate with BBST school- based teams as needed </li><li>Co-Facilitate Special Education Working Group </li><li>Partner with school communities to expand central office-school connection </li><li>Fulfill any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education & Student Services, Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent </li></ul>
