Salary and work year established by Board of Education and the custodians' bargaining unit.</p> <p>Primary Function: Help maintain the physical school properties, in order to provide a safe and clean environment for students, staff, and the community.</p> <p>Typical Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Cleans and monitors designated spaces and equipment in the building, including sweeping, dusting, moping, vacuuming, and waxing and rubbish removal. </li><li>Assists in the upkeep of seasonal grounds work, such as snow and ice removal, leaves and other debris. </li><li>Unlocks and locks premises, secures windows and activates and deactivates the alarm systems. </li><li>Cleans and maintains custodial equipment daily after each use. </li><li>Takes monthly fuel readings and forwards results to the Business Office when applicable. </li><li>Restocks consumable items and provides an inventory of supplies to the lead custodian at the high school, middle school and the principals of the elementary schools. </li><li>Helps in unloading of freight, checks and distributes freight to respective areas. </li><li>Works as a team with all custodians in thoroughly cleaning and maintaining buildings during school breaks and in the summer. </li><li>Collects Material Safety Data Sheets for all cleaning products and submits them to the Chief of Operations. </li><li>Assists visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within the building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment. </li><li>Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job.</p> <ul> <li>The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. </li><li>The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. </li><li>The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb on to ladders. </li><li>The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. </li><li>The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails, and unloading trucks. </li><li>The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as, tables, bleachers, and/or cleaning equipment. </li><li>Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or general education degree (GED). </li><li>Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. </li><li>Knowledge of basic math functions. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. </li><li>Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education Policies. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bilingual </li></ul> <p>New London Public School District is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
