<p>JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>The High School English Language Arts (ELA) ensures students receive high-quality instruction in English Language Arts through building the capacity of ELA educators. This role involves leading the development and improvement of approximately ten (10) teachers at Normandy High School through training, observations, model lessons, feedback conversations, data analysis, and more. As the ELA content expert, the ELA Coach provides support on curriculum, high-quality interactions, and the science of teaching reading.</p> <p>Reports to: Director of Literacy</p> <p>Supervises: As assigned</p> <p>Pay Grade: Administration Salary Schedule</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Facilitate Professional Development: Lead professional development sessions for teachers to enhance their instructional skills and knowledge. </li><li>Teacher Observations and Feedback: Conduct classroom observations, provide constructive feedback, and identify actionable next steps to improve core ELA instruction, focusing on support rather than evaluation. </li><li>Monitor Interventions: Oversee and support interventions conducted by classroom teachers to ensure they are effective and aligned with best practices. </li><li>Model Exemplar Lessons: Demonstrate model lessons to showcase best practices and effective teaching strategies. </li><li>Lesson Preparation Support: Assist teachers in preparing lessons using high-quality curriculum resources. </li><li>Student Interaction Support: Model and support high-quality interactions with students to foster a positive and effective learning environment. </li><li>Data Analysis: Analyze student performance data, identify trends, and support teachers in adjusting instruction based on data insights. </li><li>Parent Communication and Involvement: Assist teachers in effective communication with parents and fostering family involvement in student learning. </li><li>Student Success Advocacy: Communicate a strong belief in all students' abilities to become successful readers, writers, and thinkers. </li><li>Meetings and Trainings: Attend all required meetings and trainings to stay updated on best practices and school policies. </li><li>Communication with Leadership: Regularly update and communicate with the leadership team regarding school-wide literacy progress and initiatives. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Proven Results: Demonstrated success in working with struggling readers and improving their reading skills. </li><li>Reading Instruction Knowledge: Strong understanding of how children learn to read and the ability to apply this knowledge in a classroom setting. </li><li>Curriculum Expertise: Experience with and knowledge of high-quality reading curriculum materials and strategies. </li></ul> <p>EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION</p> <ul> <li>Teaching Experience: Minimum of 3 years of effective experience as a certified ELA teacher. </li></ul> <p>Physical demands</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
