<p>Mechanical Engineer - Industrial & Steel Mill Projects</p> <p>Design it. Build it. See it come to life in active steel mills.</p> <p>We're looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer who thrives in fast-paced industrial environments and enjoys seeing their designs move from concept to fabrication and installation. This role offers the opportunity to work on real-world industrial and steel mill projects, collaborate closely with project managers and field teams, and make a direct impact on complex facilities operating at full scale.</p> <p>If you're strong in SolidWorks, enjoy practical mechanical design, and want exposure to active heavy-industrial environments, this is a role where your work truly matters.</p> <p>What You'll Do</p> <ul> <li>Design mechanical systems and equipment for industrial and steel mill facilities </li><li>Create 3D models, layouts, and fabrication-level drawings using SolidWorks </li><li>Support projects from concept through construction, including coordination and field support </li><li>Collaborate with project managers, engineers from other disciplines, and field personnel to deliver integrated solutions </li><li>Review equipment and system installations to ensure compliance with construction documents </li><li>Manage and support multiple concurrent projects within established schedules </li><li>Contribute to a wide range of industrial projects varying in scope, scale, and complexity </li><li>Prepare construction cost estimates, from high-level to detailed </li><li>Assist with feasibility studies, conceptual layouts, and equipment selection </li><li>Develop contract documents, technical specifications, and fabrication details </li><li>Review vendor and fabricator submittals for alignment with design intent </li><li>Perform site visits to active steel mills and industrial facilities </li><li>Execute all work in accordance with project Health & Safety plans </li><li>Represent the company with professionalism, integrity, and a strong safety mindset </li></ul> <p>What We're Looking For</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline </li><li>1-5+ years of mechanical engineering experience (industrial experience is a strong plus) </li><li>SolidWorks expertise is required </li><li>Experience with mechanical design, equipment layout, and fabrication drawings </li><li>Exposure to steel mills or heavy industrial facilities preferred </li><li>Familiarity with construction documents, shop drawings, and construction support </li><li>EIT preferred; pursuing a Professional Engineer (PE) license encouraged </li><li>Able to safely navigate active industrial and construction environments </li><li>Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working on multiple projects at once </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <ul> <li>Onsite, 5 days per week in the Merrillville office </li><li>Collaborative, open-layout workspace </li><li>Supportive team culture with strong project collaboration </li></ul> <p>This role is ideal for engineers who want hands-on industrial exposure, real project ownership, and the chance to grow within challenging and rewarding mechanical design work.</p> <p>Job Type & Location</p> <p>This is a Permanent position based out of Merrillville, IN.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $83200.00 - $114400.00/yr.</p> <p>Health, dental, and vision insurance Flexible spending accounts & health savings account 401(k) options (Traditional and Roth) Paid parental leave Life & AD&D insurance Short- and long-term disability Wellness program with reimbursement benefits</p> <p>Workplace Type</p> <p>This is a fully onsite position in Merrillville,IN.</p> <p>Application Deadline</p> <p>This position is anticipated to close on May 18, 2026.</p> <p>Diversity, Equity & Inclusion</p> <p>At Actalent, diversity and inclusion are a bridge towards the equity and success of our people.
