<p>Organizational Summary:</p> <p>The Florida Institute of Oceanography (FIO) is a state-wide Academic Infrastructure Support Organization (AISO) established in 2009 by the Chancellor and Board of Governors (BOG) of the State University System (SUS). Hosted by the University of South Florida and housed at USF St. Petersburg campus, FIO operates under a Memorandum of Understanding with 32 institutions and agencies, including all 12 public universities, engaged in marine research, education, and resource management. FIO provides collaborating opportunities across academia, government, and private sector for educational, training, research, and public outreach for students and scientists across the state of Florida.</p> <p>FIO operates a fleet of state of the art research vessels and a marine facility (Keys Marine Laboratory) supporting and enabling research and education across the state of Florida, offering unique opportunities for college level education and researchers studying the marine ecosystems offered along the coasts of Florida.</p> <p>Position Description:</p> <p>The Marine Technician will work with specialized marine and oceanographic instrumentation systems in onshore, coastal, and offshore research sites, including on-board ships, small vessels, and other oceanographic equipment. Individual contributor role with no day-to-day supervisory responsibility but may be designated lead on projects and duties as required.</p> <p>This position will serve as a liaison with Chief Scientist, Marine Operations Leadership, and research vessel Captains to coordinate the shipboard science operations including pre-cruise planning for research equipment, logistics, and field operations. Will advise and instruct science parties on the safe operation and use of oceanographic equipment, provide technical expertise to on-board science groups and crew members, and maintain the shipboard communications and data network and research equipment. This position will report directly to the Captain of their respective vessel on the USF St. Petersburg campus.</p>
