If so, check out this opportunity to become part of the UWM Student Affairs team!</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Life plays a critical role in fostering a vibrant and inclusive student community at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee through strategic leadership of operations and student engagement efforts within the Division of Student Affairs (DSA). Beyond divisional leadership, this senior leadership position within Student Affairs provides strategic direction, oversight, and support for departments that directly impact the student experience outside the classroom: University Housing, the Student Union (including Student Involvement), Dining & Retail Services (beginning October 1, 2026), and the Children's Learning Center. This position leads strategic projects on behalf of the Division, including division-focused employee development, facilities, technological, and other division-level operational matters, large-scale programs, and internal communication efforts in support of DSA's employee and student goals.</p> <p>Job Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Provides leadership for programs by establishing strategic direction and setting priorities that align with the strategic directives of the Office of the Chancellor, ensures units effectively carry out duties in a way that best supports the university's initiatives. Provides direct supervision of program leadership, and monitors compliance with laws, regulations, university policies and procedures, and relevant contractual obligations </li><li>Advises and collaborates with the Chancellor and/or Vice Chancellor on critical issues, represents the functional area of supervision and/or Chancellor or Vice Chancellor at appropriate meetings and events as requested; and serves on and/or leads various program and/or university committees as directed to address issues </li><li>Monitors on-going assessment and continuous improvement of programs and services by guiding the establishment of annual goals, ensuring progress towards goals is met, articulating challenges, and reporting on annual outcomes and achievements for programs and services </li><li>Ensures initiatives are effectively using program assessment and data analysis to improve initiatives and strategies, identifies opportunities for improvement, and makes recommendations to the Vice Chancellor for approval </li><li>Leads special initiatives and/or grant-funded programs that require the Vice Chancellor's attention with respect to program design, planning, coordination, and interaction with internal and external stakeholders </li><li>Builds consensus and develops collegial, collaborative working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, partners with administrative and academic departments to support initiatives, and gathers input from key stakeholders to support recommendations </li><li>Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees </li></ul> <p>A complete job description can be furnished upon request</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Masters Degree or higher </li><li>At least seven (7) years of related work experience </li><li>Progressive experience in management and organizational leadership; with experience in strategic direction and oversight of student life and higher education-related operations </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Prior experience serving in a senior-level administration position </li><li>Demonstrated experience responding to student needs/ interests within operational/ administrative initiatives or projects </li><li>Demonstrated experience in analyzing and resolving complex issues, both logical and interpersonal </li><li>Evidence of strong communication (verbal & written), relationship-building, and leadership skills </li><li>Demonstrated project management skills </li><li>Demonstrated experience working with high level executives in a collaborative setting </li><li>Demonstrated experience in promoting and growing an inclusive environment for students and staff </li></ul> <p>Target Salary Range 147,000-168,000 Benefits and Total Rewards</p> <p>As part of UWM's commitment to supporting the success of our team members through positive experiences, employees are provided with Benefits to Benefit You and Your Life.
