This position collaborates with school staff to assign schedules, monitor academic progress, and implement necessary interventions. The counselor also assists students in setting and achieving academic and personal goals while fostering a college- and career-focused environment.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p>Academic Planning & Support</p> <ul> <li> <p>Coordinate and oversee education services, including credit accrual, credit recovery, and High School Equivalency (HSE) programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Evaluate transcripts of all current and incoming students to ensure appropriate course placement.</p> </li><li> <p>Assign student schedules and track academic progress, in collaboration with the College and Career Counselor.</p> </li><li> <p>Offer academic advising on course selection, program requirements, and career pathways, in collaboration with the College and Career Counselor.</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitate orientation sessions for new students.</p> </li><li> <p>Use credit, course completion, TABE, and ICAP data to schedule students for concurrent enrollment, externships, and internships.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop and monitor Individualized Career and Academic Plans (ICAPs) to determine alternative and individualized college and career pathways., in collaboration with the College and Career Counselor</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitate placement testing and assist with test preparation for PSAT, ACT, AP, and Accuplacer exams.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with special education, Multilingual Learner (MLL), and 504 teams to ensure appropriate student accommodations.</p> </li><li> <p>Meet regularly with MTSS teams to evaluate student progress and implement interventions.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee and assist with standardized testing programs (PSAT, ACT, AP, Accuplacer), in collaboration with Site Assessment Leader.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide test preparation resources and guidance, in collaboration with Site Assessment Leader.</p> </li><li> <p>Collect and analyze ICAP and assessment data to inform student interventions</p> </li><li> <p>Train and support the implementation of Xello and Infinite Campus (IC) for academic planning</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in resolving academic issues and disputes while developing retention strategies.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate with teachers and staff regarding external obstacles affecting student progress.</p> </li><li> <p>Submit weekly activity summaries for student entry and exit records</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with supervisory duties, including lunch monitoring, athletic and extracurricular activities, dances, advisory programs, and field trips.</p> </li><li> <p>Gather student interest data</p> </li><li> <p>Enter courses</p> </li><li> <p>Grad requirement accountability</p> </li><li> <p>Competency tracking</p> </li><li> <p>Establish, adapt, and maintain academic pathways with eye toward post-sec</p> </li><li> <p>Complete transcript analysis</p> </li><li> <p>Support with schedules and changes for students</p> </li><li> <p>Complete credit audits for students</p> </li><li> <p>Attend and participate in MTSS meetings</p> </li><li> <p>Support with course catalog</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with assessment prep and/or administering</p> </li><li> <p>CE/CTE promotion, education and administration (parents also)</p> </li><li> <p>Collaboration with Family Liaison - Parent outreach re secondary and post-sec requirements and opportunities</p> </li></ul> <p>Social-Emotional Support</p> <ul> <li> <p>Work collaboratively with the behavior and mental health team to implement student support systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop strategies that integrate academic success with social-emotional support.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct suicide risk assessments and threat assessments with the social worker.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in district-wide mental health initiatives and crisis response efforts.</p> </li></ul> <p>Required Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ability to promote student success in rigorous coursework, Career & Technical Education (CTE), and concurrent enrollment.</p> </li><li> <p>Understanding of social-emotional support systems and curricula.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to motivate students and foster a college- and career-ready culture.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong leadership skills and experience working with diverse groups (faculty, staff, students, and parents).</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication.</p> </li><li> <p>Proactive relationship-building skills with students, staff, teachers, and families.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of developmental student needs and academic advising strategies.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to support student progress.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrate commitment to the vision, mission, goals, and priorities of Sheridan School District 2.</p> </li><li> <p>Contribute to the development and execution of the school improvement plan.</p> </li><li> <p>Promote high expectations for student achievement.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in developing student learning objectives and success measures.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity in all interactions.</p> </li></ul>
