<p>Job Description Summary</p> <p>Organization's Summary Statement:</p> <p>The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites resumes for a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Vice President for Strategic Communications and Marketing. The Media Relations Manager supports the strategic communications goals and objectives of the university.</p> <p>Benefits: UMES offers exciting opportunities for professional growth. Overtime, shift-differential and on-call pay (non-exempt positions only)</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Produce, record, and edit UMES video, audio, or photographic content for </li></ul> <p>use on university social media accounts, the university website, and for</p> <p>other broadcast purposes.</p> <ul> <li>Produce and edit written content to be used on the university website, </li></ul> <p>social media accounts, in media relations, and in the production of printed</p> <p>and digital brochures and electronic communications.</p> <ul> <li>Pitch story ideas to news media, cultivate news coverage, ad work with j </li></ul> <p>journalists to ensure optimal news coverage of the university</p> <ul> <li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>May be required to perform physical work requiring bending, stooping, </li></ul> <p>reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting.</p> <ul> <li>May be required to work in adverse weather conditions. </li><li>May be required to wear and work in personal protective equipment. </li><li>May be required to operate a variety of equipment. </li></ul> <p>Preferences:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in journalism, broadcasting, digital media production, or </li><li>similar education or experience. </li><li>Five years' experience in as a multimedia content creator, editor, or </li></ul> <p>manager, as a multimedia journalist, or as a public relations or marketing</p> <p>practitioner, or equivalent combination of experience, education and/or</p> <p>training in related fields.</p> <ul> <li>Five years' experience producing, recording, and editing video packages </li></ul> <p>and digital photographs.</p> <ul> <li>Five years' experience writing compelling news articles, briefs, and social </li></ul> <p>media posts.</p> <ul> <li>Skilled as a seasoned Writer, Photographer, or Videographer. </li><li>Skilled as a strong communicator to include experience as a spokesperson. </li><li>Skilled in time and projects management. </li></ul> <p>Licenses/ Certifications: N/A</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Five (5) years of professional communications, marketing, or media relations experience. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of media relations strategies. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.
