<p>Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is searching for a Part-Time Referral Specialist. The referral specialist is responsible for assembling information concerning patient's clinical background and referral needs. Provides appropriate clinical information to referring providers, specialists, or health care facilities.</p> <p>To share this posting, please use this link</p> <p>WMed has opportunities for Referral Specialist I - Healthcare setting and Customer service preferred. $15.90 - $18.55/hour dependent upon years of equivalent and relevant experience.</p> <p>Referral Specialist II - must have 1-2 years health care, customer service and call center. $17.45 - $20.35/hour dependent upon years of experience.</p> <p>Referral Specialist III - must have 3+ years health care, customer service, call center and, insurance verification and billing experience. $19.65 - $22.90/hr dependent upon years of experience.</p> <p>FULL-TIME BENEFITS PACKAGE:</p> <ul> <li>Wellness reimbursement. </li><li>Continuing education and tuition reimbursement. </li><li>Employer-funded retirement plan. </li><li>Two medical plan options: PPO and High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with employer HSA contribution. </li><li>Flexible work solutions based on position and department. </li><li>Up to four weeks of PTO accrual beginning in year one. </li><li>Paid holidays. </li><li>Paid volunteer time. </li><li>Paid preferred holiday. </li><li>No nights, no weekends. </li></ul> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Verifying insurance in the EMR and/or appropriate websites. </li><li>Pre-registration for upcoming appointments. </li><li>Manages all assigned work-ques and in-basket request. </li><li>Answers and directs department phone calls. </li><li>Schedules and reschedules referral appointments. </li><li>Enters patient demographic, referral, and insurance information into the EMR. </li><li>Verifies eligibility of managed care patients. </li><li>Checks and updates referral information. </li><li>Sorts and distributes department mail. </li><li>Provides information to patients regarding billing processes and procedures. </li><li>Ensures patients are notified for upcoming appointments by communicating through their My Chart, email or via US mail. </li><li>Ensuring all necessary new patient paperwork and health history questionnaires are mailed to all New Patients to WMed Health Providers/Specialists. </li><li>Manages patient portal requests. </li><li>Monitors office supplies and reorders items as needed. </li><li>Participates in all departmental meeting and in service trainings. </li><li>Participates in WMed professional development opportunities. </li><li>Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects. </li><li>Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions. </li><li>All other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED required. </li><li>Knowledge and proficiency in grammar and spelling skills preferred. </li><li>Healthcare setting experience preferred. </li><li>Customer service experience preferred. </li><li>Knowledge and proficiency of EMR (Epic), Medifax, Access, WebDenis system, CHAMPS, and internet as required by department a plus. </li><li></li></ul> <p>OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of basic word processing and file management using Microsoft Office. </li><li>Knowledge of basic medical terminology a plus. </li><li>Ability to operate automated standard office equipment such as multi-line phone system, copier, fax machine, shredder, etc. </li><li>Ability to work independently with minimal need for supervision. </li><li>Ability to type 40 words per minute with minimal errors required. </li><li>Bilingual skills desired but not required. </li><li>Make decisions based on established procedures. </li><li>Eagerness to learn and grow professionally. </li><li>Positive attitude for new challenges and new opportunities. </li><li>Ability to accept and apply feedback. </li><li>Regular and predictable attendance is expected. </li><li>Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow. </li><li>Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision. </li></ul>
