<p>Job Description and Duties</p> <p>Under the general direction of the Information Technology Manager I (ITM I), the incumbent performs as a skilled information technology (IT) specialist lead for highly complex technical architecture projects of moderate to high risk and acts as a technical advisor and consultant to other staff in solving system problems and achieving best use of available computer hardware and software resources. The incumbent is responsible for IT support services of computer systems critical to meeting business requirements of the California State Legislature and legislative support organizations. Additionally, the incumbent functions as a support technician lead, troubleshooting and resolving service requests that are escalated to the Infrastructure Services Division</p> <p>Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Acts as project manager over highly complex database infrastructure and software implementations. Leads moderately complex projects, using project management tools and techniques to define tasks, to estimate the level of effort and calendar time required to complete each task, to obtain, assign and train resources to monitor progress, to review projects and deliverables to prepare and conduct presentations, and to report status as required by management. </li><li>Performs as a database consultant on highly and most complex database, computer hardware, and software installation projects for the Legislative Data Center (LDC) customers, including the Assembly, Senate, Legislative Analyst Office, the Office of Legislative Counsel (OLC), and others. </li><li>Performs database capacity planning and support to ensure optimum database availability and performance, while providing for future growth. Evaluates database software and tools, using analysis methods to produce documented alternatives and recommendations, for the purpose of obtaining, replacing or upgrading existing database and software. </li><li>Conducts research of the computer and IT industries to identify technological trends and new technologies, and utilizes this information in recommending alternative solutions for improving the LDC customer's business processes. Maintains necessary skills to stay current with technology. </li><li>Provides direct support to customers, analysis, and resolution of most complex computer system problems related to Operating Systems, web application servers, layered products, databases and network products in a multi-vendor environment. </li><li>Manages interruptions and changes in priorities without losing productivity. </li><li>Possesses strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering the most accurate data content and availability. </li><li>Available nights and weekends to address and facilitate the resolution of urgent issues. </li><li>Performs other duties as directed. </li></ul> <p>You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement.</p> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>Core business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and the incumbent is expected to be available during core hours. However, the schedule may be adjusted and is contingent upon business needs. Availability after core business hours on weekdays, weekends, and holidays is mandatory and essential during peak times of the year. Peak times generally fall within the legislative session, which is January through September. This position is located in the heart of downtown Sacramento. Questions regarding reasonable accommodations may be directed to the EEO contact listed on this job posting.</p> <p>Desirable Qualifications</p> <p>In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:</p> <ul> <li>Five (5) or more years of experience leading and performing advanced database administrator (DBA) duties. </li><li>A minimum of one (1) or more years of experience in Oracle database administration on a UNIX (Solaris/Linux) platform in an organization providing data services, application development, or systems support. </li><li>Experiences with Oracle RAC, Oracle OEM, and Oracle Golden Gate, Data Guard. </li><li>Demonstrated experience in database administration operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and working with other teams to resolve both technical and complex problems. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of project management practices, tools, and techniques. </li><li>A bachelor's degree in computer science or other relevant degrees. </li><li>Ability to independently initiate and/or participate in a project team. </li><li>Experience with agency guidelines and policies. </li><li>Knowledge of the Legislative business environment and its business practices. </li><li>Knowledge of UNIX/Linux administration, Exceed, shell scripting, and web application administration. </li><li>Experience with cross-platform support.
