<ul> <li> <p>JOB SUMMARY</p> </li><li> <p>Draws blood from patients in hospital, or similar facility, for analysis or other medical purposes</p> </li><li> <p>DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> </li><li> <p>Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:</p> </li><li> <p>Assembles equipment, such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton and alcohol, on work tray in accordance to requirements for specified tests of procedures</p> </li><li> <p>Verifies or records identity of patient and converses with patient to allay fear of procedure</p> </li><li> <p>Correctly labels blood collected from patient listing patients name, medical record number, physician, date and time collected, and initials</p> </li><li> <p>Correctly verifies in the computer the blood was collected</p> </li><li> <p>Deliver the specimen collected to the correct department in the laboratory</p> </li><li> <p>Regularly checks the collected and uncollected lists</p> </li><li> <p>Attends mandatory training programs</p> </li><li> <p>EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum requirement:</p> </li><li> <p>High school diploma or Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two year college or technical school; or completion of a certified phlebotomy course or one year related experience and/or training</p> </li><li> <p>National Phlebotomist certification through accredited program</p> </li><li> <p>Preferred qualifications:</p> </li><li> <p>N/A</p> </li><li> <p>WORKING ENVIRONMENT</p> </li><li> <p>This job operates in a professional medical laboratory environment</p> </li><li> <p>Regularly works near moving mechanical parts</p> </li><li> <p>Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation</p> </li><li> <p>The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.</p> </li><li> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting)</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to walk and move about</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to position self in order to meet patient needs</p> </li><li> <p>Regularly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally required to life and/or move up to 50 pounds.</p> </li><li> <p>Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.</p> </li></ul>
