<p>Job Description:</p> <p>POSITION OVERVIEW: To provide supervision, leadership and coordinates of Secondary/Elementary Special Education Programs.</p> <p>TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Assists in the development of policies and regulations for the department's operation. </li><li>Develops, implements and evaluates the department's instructional program. </li><li>Supervises and evaluates department members and coordinates their activities throughout the academic year. </li><li>Presents and oversees a planned program of orientation and in-service activities throughout the academic year. </li><li>Conducts department meetings on a regularly scheduled basis. </li><li>Reviews and administers the department budget. </li><li>Assists in the recruitment, screening, and assigning of departmental personnel. </li><li>Annually submits to the Director an up-to-date inventory report of the department's supplies, textbook, equipment and supplementary materials. </li><li>Attends and/or chairs Planning and Placement team meetings which may involve litigation, are out-of-district, or which may recommend excessive costs to the district. </li><li>Ensures that the guidelines relating to the development, monitoring, review and revision of the Individual Educational Program are adhered to in accordance with state and federal legislature and regulations. </li><li>With staff, assists in scheduling students for academic classes, determines what courses will be taught, assigns instructors, and decided the curriculum to be followed. </li><li>Ensures the assessment/evaluation process is performed according to prescribed procedure. </li><li>Assists in determinations as to completeness of assessment data for purposes of diagnostic and placement decisions. </li><li>Ensures that the maintenance of files are appropriately kept in accordance with state and federal mandates. </li><li>Assists in the interpretation of the program to staff, the Board and community. </li><li>Assists the Director in overseeing the Young Parents' Program. </li></ul> <p>Performs such other department tasks as the Director of their designee may from time to time assign.</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Connecticut Administrative Intermediate Certificate #092. </li><li>Connecticut Certification in Special Education #065, or Connecticut Certification #061, #068, #070, #071. </li><li>Major teaching experience in field of specialization. </li><li>Additional requirements as the Board may deem advisable. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Bilingual, English and Spanish </li></ul> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year are determined by the Board of Education and the Administrators' Bargaining Unit.</p> <p>EVALUATION: Annually by the Executive Director of Student and Family Supports</p>
