<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Position Overview</p> <p>Bayless Junior High School is a diverse, community-driven learning environment committed to academic excellence and strong character development. With a student body that reflects a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, the school prides itself on fostering belonging, engagement, and growth for every learner.</p> <p>The Assistant Principal serves as a key leader in sustaining this positive school culture. Working closely with the Principal, the Assistant Principal helps ensure a supportive and inclusive environment where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This role requires a visible, approachable, and collaborative leader who builds strong relationships with students, staff, and families and models the values that define Bayless Junior High.</p> <p>Position Purpose</p> <p>Under the general supervision of the Principal, the Assistant Principal provides leadership and support in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school's educational programs, staff, and operations. This role will help lead initiatives related to curriculum, instruction, student discipline, and school safety, and serve as a key partner in achieving the district's goals. This position calls for a strong instructional leader who can lead with empathy, work collaboratively with others, and isn't afraid to be a little silly and have fun while helping students grow, both academically and personally.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Assist the Principal in leading and managing all aspects of the school's educational programs and operations in alignment with building and district goals </li><li>Support teachers through coaching, feedback, and professional development to promote effective instruction and improved student outcomes </li><li>Promote a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment that fosters respect, responsibility, and positive behavior among students </li><li>Collaborate with staff to implement interventions and supports that address academic, social, and behavioral needs </li><li>Assist in the recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resources issues </li><li>Serve as a visible presence throughout the building, building relationships with students and staff, strengthening engagement and trust </li><li>Manage student discipline procedures in a fair, consistent manner that reinforces expectations and follows district policies </li><li>Assist in evaluating staff performance and providing constructive feedback that supports professional growth and continuous improvement </li><li>Participate in the development and implementation of building improvement plans, initiatives, and data-driven decision-making processes </li><li>Maintain up-to-date knowledge of district and building emergency procedures and ensure staff is trained accordingly </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy </li><li>Knowledge of middle school curriculum and concepts </li><li>Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision </li><li>Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans </li><li>Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education </li><li>Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed </li><li>Ability to move throughout a school building and grounds multiple times daily, including climbing stairs </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents </li><li>Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints </li><li>Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work </li></ul> <p>Position Qualifications</p> <p>Education: Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university, preferably in School Administration or Educational Leadership</p> <p>Certification: Missouri Principal Certification or a demonstrated ability to obtain one</p> <p>Experience: Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience required, successful administrative or supervisory experience preferred</p> <p>In accordance with law, the district strictly prohibits discrimination and harassment against employees, students or others on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, disability, age, genetic information or any other characteristic protected by law.
