<p>Examination Date</p> <p>Week of September 15, 2025</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Fabricates, installs and maintains products that are made from thin metal sheets, such as ducts for heating and air-conditioning. Selects types of sheet metal and/or nonmetallic material, measures and marks dimensions and reference lines on metal sheets. Fabricate supports and custom metal structures using angle, shaped, tube or solid metal materials, or alters parts at construction sites. Responsible for locker repair. Studies plans and specifications to determine the kind and quality needed. Uses computer-controlled saws, lasers, shears and presses in order to cut, bend and fasten pieces of sheet metal. Fastens seams and joints with welds, bolts, rivets or other connecting devices before further assembly and installation. Maintains shop equipment as needed.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.) AND 4?years of experience as an apprentice in sheet metal work AND 2?years of field experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.</p> <p>License Requirements</p> <p>Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.</p> <p>Citizenship</p> <p>Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the United States at time of application.</p> <p>Military Credit</p> <p>Open Competitive applicants who have had military service will receive an additional credit of 20% if a passing grade is attained. To obtain credit, a NON-RETURNABLE copy of the DD214 OR Certificate of Service (INDICATING Honorable Discharge) must be UPLOADED to your application or PRESENTED at time of examination.</p> <p>Promotional Qualifications</p> <p>Current employment with Dayton Public Schools must be indicated on your application in order to receive promotional credit. Current employment will be verified by Dayton Public Schools Human Resources Department. Identical scores will be broken by (1) seniority and (2) random selection method.</p> <p>Open Competitive Applicants</p> <p>Applicants appearing on the Promotional eligible list shall be considered for appointment prior to those on the Open Competitive list. Identical exam scores will be broken in favor of: (1) the candidate who received military credit and (2) random selection method.</p> <p>Notes</p> <p>Examination dates and times are subject to change. Calculators will be provided for the Civil Service examination. Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination, drug screen and/or police background investigation and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity. Applicants are responsible for providing all necessary employment dates, experience, training, or any other requirements as stated in the Exam Announcement, in order for their application to be considered for certification and admittance to the examination process.</p>
