Performs maintenance and repair services on District fleet (e.g., annual inspection program, defects) in accordance with quality assurance inspection guidelines, District standards and established work rules and policy. </li><li>Assists Maintenance Technicians with major repairs, Colorado Department of Education (CDE) inspections and service calls, daily fueling and servicing. Performs operator pre-trip vehicle inspections by checking condition and availability of safety and emergency equipment in accordance with State of Colorado and Commercial Driver's License authority and participates in random drug and alcohol testing program. </li><li>Completes required forms and paperwork (e.g., CDE maintenance and annual inspection, defect forms) using computerized system, ensuring completeness, accuracy and proper placement of forms in vehicle. </li><li>Maintains work area by cleaning tables, scrubbing floors and throwing away or recycling materials (e.g., scrap metal, oil). Creates safe work environment by monitoring shop areas, examining tools and equipment and providing employee safety training. </li><li>Determines work sequences of repairs and maintenance activities based on work priority and availability of parts. Participates in and supports a team work environment by interacting with other technicians and supervisors and assisting in the development of new practices and technology (e.g., computer system requirements). </li><li>Communicates and coordinates fleet maintenance schedule and concerns with shop supervisor. Maintains safety and effective operation of personal and shop tools (e.g., floor jacks, air guns, seal driver) in accordance with guidelines (e.g., safety, instruction manual). </li><li>Records maintenance activities by utilizing computerized system, ensuring maintenance standards are met. Coordinates with parts counter clerk to ensure availability of parts needed for repair and maintenance; and checks out parts according to procedures. </li><li>Drives/ test drives vehicles (e.g., multi-passenger buses, white fleet), obeying traffic regulations, driving defensively, reporting any accidents/incidents to the supervisor at the time of occurrence and using diagnostic equipment. Works to obtain and maintain related field Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and fleet maintenance certifications. </li><li>Communicates with vehicle operators during service calls or refers operator to Shop Supervisor. Maintains, trains other personnel in, and communicates current knowledge of fleet maintenance practices and technology (e.g., computer system requirements). </li><li>Performs other duties as requested, such as, but not limited to, executing contingency plans during inclement weather, and driving bus routes when there is a driver shortage. </li></ul> <p>What You'll Need:</p> <ul> <li>Minimum High School Diploma/GED </li><li>1+ year mechanic experience </li><li>2+Technical community college graduate in automotive/truck mechanics (1 yr. program), two (2) years first line journeyman level maintenance experience and a full set of tools AND/OR four (4) years of first line (journeyman) maintenance experience and a full set of tools AND/OR a combination of education and experience. </li><li>A current and valid State of Colorado Driver's License (CDL) is required with Class A and BP2S endorsements (or ability to acquire within 6 months). Must meet insurability requirements of the Self Insurance Pool for driving a District vehicle. </li><li>Knowledge of maintenance skills (e.g., welding, machine work, electrical and mechanical systems, gasoline and diesel engines, overhaul and rebuild, air and hydraulic brakes, tire repair) </li><li>Knowledge of fleet maintenance software (e.g., Faster) and vehicle diagnostic systems (e.g., On Board Diagnostics (OBD), Mitchell on-demand) </li><li>Knowledge of safety issues and regulations when operating and repairing vehicles </li><li>Knowledge of Colorado Department of Education (CDE), Department of Transportation (DOT) and Fluid Mechanics & Computational Science (FMCS) rules, regulations and requirements </li><li>Ability to troubleshoot and technical skills for diagnosis and repair </li><li>Works collaboratively with others on a team </li><li>Ability to multi-task and complete work with frequent interruptions </li><li>Good communication skills, both written and verbal </li><li>High degree of integrity in handling confidential information </li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and other computer software programs </li><li>Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred </li><li>Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education. </li><li>Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us. </li><li>Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position. </li></ul> <p>Denver Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender expression, and sexual orientation), parental status, national origin, age, disability, genetic information (including family medical history), political affiliation, military service, or any other status protected by law or regulations.
