<p>The Snow Safety Director is responsible for designing, implementing and managing the</p> <p>Avalanche Program and Snow Safety team to ensure the safety of employees and guests within</p> <p>the resort's operational areas, and surrounding terrain.</p> <p>This position may require additional work outside of normal operating hours to provide an AM</p> <p>and PM forecast. Compensation will be given for time spent on AM & PM forecasting while not</p> <p>at the resort. Overtime to be given after 40hrs/wk. All other Nordic Valley employee perks apply.</p> <p>When proven necessary for resort operations, continuing education courses such as UAC</p> <p>PROSAW, ISSW, Avy Rescue, Pro 2 etc. may be required. Nordic Valley will cover the</p> <p>employees' hours spent while attending these courses. This benefit is in the spirit of the</p> <p>employee returning each winter with a mindset of overall improvement, maintaining operations</p> <p>at the highest level, and improving the safety of employees and patrons.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <ul> <li>Develop, organize, train and manage Snow Safety Team including mitigation scheduling, </li></ul> <p>and performance management</p> <ul> <li>Give input on performance evaluations for all ski patrollers who participate in Snow </li></ul> <p>Safety work</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for avalanche rescue training and avalanche mitigation procedures. </li><li>Assess for risk and identify avalanche hazards on a daily basis to ensure the safe and </li></ul> <p>timely opening of terrain; organize avalanche mitigation when necessary</p> <ul> <li>Oversee and maintain run closures, backcountry gates, and the ski area boundary </li><li>Establish and maintain weather monitoring equipment and snow study plots; Monitor </li></ul> <p>weather, snowpack and terrain; maintain records of weather and mitigation strategies;</p> <p>forecast avalanche problems/hazard</p> <ul> <li>Oversee Snow Safety budget and supplies including managing explosives in accordance </li></ul> <p>with Federal and State guidelines</p> <ul> <li>Oversee future expansions into avalanche terrain and future programs relating to snow </li></ul> <p>safety and the NVSP.</p> <ul> <li>Develop and maintain avalanche response and SAR protocols and stay abreast of </li></ul> <p>industry standards and best practices.</p> <ul> <li>Oversee the training of the Patrol in timely and efficient Partner Rescue techniques. </li><li>Maintain positive working relationship with all departments; communicate avalanche </li></ul> <p>observations and trends with industry peers.</p> <ul> <li>Seek opportunities to enhance guest experiences, and initiate guest contact. </li><li>Other patrol duties as assigned. </li></ul>
