<p>The Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching group and private swim lessons to various age groups and skill levels at the aquatic facility for the City of Casselberry. In addition, this position provides customer service and maintains the facility. The Swim Instructor performs routine work covered by existing policies, procedures or instruction and supervision is readily available.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide safe and quality swim lesson instruction for various age groups. (95%)</p> </li><li> <p>Teach class content appropriate to the course level and within certification guidelines; monitors participants and assesses skills, provides a safe environment for all participants, completes any necessary reports and forms, I.e., course records, attendance records, progress reports, etc.. </p> </li><li> <p>Responsible for preparation and safety of class; prepares lesson plans, organizes teaching equipment, enforcing "ask before entry" rule, and the setup and cleanup of materials used for class. </p> </li><li> <p>Engages in conversation with participants and their family for progress updates.</p> </li><li> <p>Attends in-service training as needed. </p> </li><li> <p>Completes general pool cleaning and maintenance duties. Eliminates and/or reports any hazardous conditions or unsafe equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Recognizes and responds to emergencies.</p> </li><li> <p>Administers first aid if required.</p> </li><li> <p>Responds timely to customer requests and work orders.</p> </li><li> <p>Additional Duties and Responsibilities (5%)</p> </li><li> <p>Performs all duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the core values of the City, and consistent with City and Department policies.</p> </li><li> <p>Follows safe working practices and has a working knowledge of safety practices and procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Completes the identified required or assigned training timely and applies acquired knowledge and/or skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Adheres to laws, regulations and policies of the City and of the assigned department. Follows instructions provided by supervisor, Department Director or their designee.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in department meetings, staff meetings and other related activities. </p> </li><li> <p>Maintains, preserves, retains and disposes of public records according to FS Chapter 119.</p> </li><li> <p>Emergency Management Role </p> </li><li> <p>Participates as a member of the City staff as required to take action in the event of an emergency.</p> </li><li> <p>Acts in the assigned role to support the City in disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts as described in the City of Casselberry Emergency Management Plan, assigned by supervisor or designee.</p> </li></ul> <p>(These essential and additional job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. </p> <p>A. Education and Training: A High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred. </p> <p>B. Experience: A minimum of one (1) year experience in some phase of aquatics is required. A comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. </p> <p>C. Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations Required:Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's license. A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check will be made to determine acceptance of past driving record. Starfish Aquatics Institute swim instructor certification required. </p> <p>D. Security Clearance: Florida Department of Law Enforcement background clearance.</p> <p>E. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations affecting work. </li><li>Knowledge of departmental rules, policies and procedures. </li><li>Knowledge of principles and practices of general aquatic rules, policies and procedures. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. </li><li>Ability to perform rescue work, CPR and First Aid. </li><li>Ability to deal with stressful conditions in a calm and professional manner. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. </li><li>Ability to operate a motor vehicle. </li><li>Ability to support the mission statement of the City of Casselberry: Committed to protect and enhance the quality of life within its community. </li><li>Ability to support the core values of the City of Casselberry. </li><li>Ability to support the vision of the City of Casselberry: A vibrant, affordable, diverse, and progressive community where citizens feel safe, enjoy their neighborhoods, and access their city government. </li></ul> <p>The work environment and physical demands described here are representative and not intended to be all-inclusive of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work Environment: This position performs the duties in a field setting. The noise level in the work environment is loud. This position is also frequently exposed to various weather conditions, slippery or uneven surfaces, and disease/blood/bodily fluids. </p> <p>B. Physical Demands: The primary functions require frequent periods of standing, walking, bending, pushing and pulling, time sitting, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and swimming. In addition, this position may be required to occasionally lift and carry up to one hundred (100) pounds with or without assistance of another person or utilization of lifting equipment. This position is regularly required to use vision, speech and hearing, with or without assistive devices.</p> <p>C. Equipment/Tools and Technology Used: This position utilizes the following tools and equipment while performing the duties of the job: First aid kit and emergency equipment (i.e. rescue tubes, and backboard).</p> <p>D. Employee Infection/Exposure Risk Classification: Category II: Employee performs tasks that do not involve exposure to blood, body fluids or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM), however, employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks. The normal work involves no exposure to blood, bodily fluids or OPIM, but potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. </p>
