<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The School of the Arts is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach Applied Voice for Musical Theatre students during the Fall2026 academic semester. The College seeks an instructor who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms and studios. Instructors chosen to teach at Dean College create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.</p> <p>We are seeking an instructor to teach MUS 124: Applied Voice for Musical Theatre. This is a 1-credit course which facilitates individual 50-minute lessons once a week during the semester. The School of the Arts provides a course charter with course objectives and learning outcomes and sample syllabi.</p> <p>This is a part-time, non-exempt position for the Fall 2026 academic semester with a fixed, non-negotiable rate of $52.00 per hour.</p> <p>The course description is as follows:</p> <p>MUS 124: Applied Voice - Twelve 50-minute vocal lessons for Musical Theatre majors given by instructors as selected by the School Dean and Applied Music Coordinator.</p> <p>The ideal candidate will demonstrate significant knowledge and skill in vocal pedagogy in order to provide voice instruction for undergraduate Musical Theatre students. Objectives for students include developing healthy vocal production and health based on a solid anatomical model, learning warm up and practice habits, and learning music across a wide spectrum of contemporary and classical styles, as well as ongoing study of music theory.</p> <p>Position responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Deliver twelve 50-minute individual applied voice lessons per student per semester to undergraduate Musical Theatre majors </li><li>Provide instruction in healthy vocal production and technique grounded in a solid anatomical model </li><li>Guide students in developing effective warm-up and practice habits for long-term vocal health and growth </li><li>Teach repertoire across a broad range of contemporary and classical musical styles appropriate to Musical Theatre training </li><li>Incorporate ongoing music theory study into applied lesson instruction </li><li>Utilize the School-provided course charter, learning outcomes, and sample syllabi to develop and maintain a course syllabus </li><li>Create an engaging, professional, and inclusive learning environment responsive to students of diverse learning backgrounds </li><li>Collaborate with the School Dean and Applied Music Coordinator as needed regarding student progress and course expectations </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in a related field is required; master's degree in vocal pedagogy preferred. </li><li>Ability to teach all periods and styles of Musical Theatre repertoire required, as well as classical technique preferred. </li><li>Proficient musical sight-reading and piano skills. </li><li>Evidence of excellence in studio teaching at a professional or higher education level, as well as expertise in musical theatre vocal pedagogy and repertoire required. </li><li>Experience teaching at the college level preferred. </li><li>Expertise in learner-centered teaching, required. </li><li>Experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy, required. </li><li>Experience and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, required. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Dean College is an equal-opportunity, Title IX institution and pledges to recruit, select and promote diversity by providing equality of opportunity in higher education for all persons, including faculty and staff with respect to hiring, continuation, promotion, and applicants for admission, enrolled students and graduates without discrimination or segregation.</p> <p>The College is interested in candidates who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of colleagues, students, faculty, and community members.
