The nurse will perform professional duties consistent with Massachusetts guidelines, regulations and statutes governing nursing, school health, and local district policy.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Ability to relate to children at the required level. </li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Ability to take direction from the Nurse and/or Principal. </li><li>Ability to work independently. </li><li>Maintain a safe environment. </li><li>Respect and protect the confidentiality of students, staff, families, etc. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Render emergency first aid as necessary. </li><li>Triages students/staff with illness or injury and provides appropriate intervention </li><li>Maintain electronic student health records with appropriate documentation. </li><li>Maintain an appropriate inventory of supplies and materials. </li><li>Perform such other tasks as may be assigned by a nurse and/or Principal. </li><li>Collaborate with school nurse, teacher, therapists, and other school staff to help provide an optimal learning experience for students </li><li>Demonstrates professional behavior with all interactions </li><li>Maintain professional dress and appearance </li></ul> <p>Education: Associates Degree or Higher</p> <p>Professional Certification:</p> <ul> <li>LPN/RN </li><li>Certified in CPR, First Aid and AED </li></ul> <p>Specialized Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Strong knowledge of child development milestones </li><li>Strong knowledge of healthcare as it relates to children </li><li>Understanding of social-emotional development of students </li><li>Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed and highly qualified </li><li>Thorough understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice as they relate to student, staff and community engagement and cultivation </li></ul> <p>Preferred Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Two years of experience in pediatric or community health </li><li>Previous public school experience preferred </li><li>Experience with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, etc.) and PowerSchool preferred, but will train the right candidate. </li></ul> <p>Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed </li><li>Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish and Portuguese, are highly desirable </li><li>Strong work ethic and attention to detail </li><li>Candidates should have a passion for working with students, families, and colleagues </li><li>Candidates must be flexible and collaborative </li><li>Candidates must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, supportive environment that nurtures student growth </li><li>Candidates must be organized and able to meet ongoing, time-sensitive deadlines for work production </li></ul> <p>Alternative degrees/experience may be substituted for the above at the discretion of the Superintendent, if such a substitution brings a strong candidate forward.</p> <p>TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED</p> <ul> <li>Phone, intercom, personal computer and software applications as outlined above, scanner, copy machine, calculator, camera, printers and fax machine. </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (not limited to)</p> <p>The information contained in this job description is for compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position. Additional duties are performed by the individuals currently holding this position and additional duties may be assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Triages students/staff with illness or injury and provides appropriate intervention and follow-up. </li><li>Administers medication in compliance with school policy and state regulations. </li><li>Conducts all state-mandated screening programs for designated grade levels including vision, hearing, postural screening, SBIRT, height and weight. </li><li>Identifies specific medical needs relating to the particular health status of the student and facilitates appropriate management for the student in the school setting. </li><li>Serves as a health advocate for the student through communication with parents, health care providers, school and community agencies. </li><li>Manages immunization compliance per MADPH regulations for all current and newly enrolling students. </li><li>Educates students, parents, and staff regarding health issues. </li></ul> <p>Works with district and school leadership to combat systemic barriers that limit student, family, and staff members' equitable access to opportunity</p> <ul> <li>Identifies and addresses bias and its impact on rigor and opportunity for students and staff </li><li>Updates policies and equitable access procedures </li></ul> <p>Any other relative duties as assigned.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
