<p>Job Title: Dean of Instruction</p> <p>Wage/Hour Status: Exempt</p> <p>Reports to: Principal</p> <p>Pay Grade: PG 5</p> <p>Dept./School: Assigned Campus</p> <p>Date Revised: 7/1/2025</p> <p>Work Days: 226</p> <p>Other: Local</p> <p>Primary Purpose: Responsible for overseeing the academic program, under the direction of the campus principal, ensure sound implementation of curriculum and staff development to improve student achievement.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Education/Certification:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in educational administration </li><li>Valid Texas principal or other appropriate certificate </li><li>Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser </li></ul> <p>Special Knowledge/Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of curriculum and instruction </li><li>Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness </li><li>Ability to manage budget and personnel </li><li>Ability to implement policy and procedures </li><li>Working knowledge in Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Resource System </li><li>Ability to interpret data </li><li>Excellent organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Three years experience as a classroom teacher </li><li>Three years experience in a leadership role </li></ul> <p>Major Responsibilities and Duties:</p> <p>Instructional Management</p> <ul> <li>Assist the school principal with the overall administration of the instructional program at the campus level and coordinate assigned student activities and services. </li><li>Provide leadership in the identification, evaluation, and selection of instructional programs, resources, and equipment for increased student achievement. </li><li>Facilitate improved student performance through the professional growth of teachers and staff as measured by course work and assessment data. </li><li>Provide quality instructional support and feedback on the instructional effectiveness of the campus. </li><li>Work with the principal to develop and implement the master schedule. </li><li>Assist in designing and providing professional development based on data analysis and campus needs. </li><li>Meet regularly with academic department heads and assistant principals to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum. </li><li>Conduct T-TESS evaluations, staff evaluations, and serve as the 2nd appraiser for appealed T-TESS evaluations. </li><li>Assist with the development and implementation of the campus new teacher mentor program. </li><li>Meet regularly with the instructional team to review campus accountability and CCMR data. </li><li>Provide instructional support to the AP & Dual Credit programs. </li></ul> <p>School Improvement</p> <ul> <li>Plan and coordinate tutorials, interventions, additional support and resources, and other instructional programs for students in need of instructional assistance in coordination with the district curriculum & instruction department. </li><li>Collaborate with the curriculum and instruction department on the compliance and tracking of HB 4545. </li><li>Facilitate and assist with the development of an effective campus improvement plan based on student needs. </li><li>Ensure that student progress is evaluated on a regular, systematic basis and that the findings are used to make instructional programs and services more effective. </li></ul> <p>School and Community Relations</p> <ul> <li>Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers. </li><li>Increase awareness of the school's guidelines and expectations for student learning and achievement among students, staff, and parents. </li><li>Serve as liaison with parents and community members. </li><li>Responsible for ESSA notifications as it relates to teacher/staff qualifications and non-certified teachers. </li><li>Assist with facilitation of the campus improvement plan, including the family engagement policy and school compact. </li></ul> <p>Other</p> <ul> <li>Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal. </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise and evaluate the work of professional staff as assigned by the school principal. Direct the work of teachers as it relates to curriculum and instruction on campus.</p> <p>General Employee Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Quality of Work - complete assignments meeting quality standards, to include accuracy, neatness, thoroughness and adherence to standards and safety rules. </li><li>Quantity of Work - demonstrate the ability to manage several responsibilities simultaneously, perform work in a productive and timely manner, and meet work schedules. </li><li>Work Habits - display a positive, cooperative attitude toward work assignments, working diligently to accomplish tasks assigned. </li><li>Communication - communicate in a positive manner with others, to include listening and responding appropriately, expressing ideas orally and in writing in a manner that helps build a positive climate for the organization. </li><li>Dependability - adhere to time frames, monitor projects and exercise follow-through, be on time for meetings and appointments, and respond appropriately to instructions and procedures. </li><li>Cooperation - work well with co-workers and supervisors as a contributing team member, demonstrate consideration of and maintain rapport with others, and help others willingly. </li><li>Initiative - seek and assume greater responsibility, monitor projects independently as required, and follow through appropriately. </li><li>Adaptability - adjust well to any change in duties, procedures, supervisors or work environment, accept new ideas and approaches to work, and respond appropriately to constructive criticism and suggestions for work improvement. </li><li>Judgment - effectively analyze problems, determine appropriate action for solutions, and use logical thinking to exhibit timely and decisive action. </li><li>Attendance - attend work on a consistent basis, taking care to consider the use and number of absences in accordance with policy so that the organization is not negatively impacted. </li><li>Punctuality - arrive to work and depart from work according to department and district requirements. </li></ul> <p>Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:</p> <p>Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment;</p> <p>Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting</p> <p>Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching</p> <p>Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior</p> <p>Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel</p> <p>Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; Work with frequent interruptions; work prolonged or irregular hours</p> <p>The foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required.</p>
