<p>JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>This position responds to fire and medical emergency calls for protection of life and property and to control and extinguish fires, perform search and rescue operations, and provide emergency medical care.</p> <p>MAJOR DUTIES</p> <ul> <li>Responds to emergency calls for fire suppression, medical assistance, hazardous materials incidents, natural disasters, explosions, bomb threats, and other emergency situations. </li><li>Maintains a state of readiness for emergency response; checks and maintains equipment and vehicles. </li><li>Suppresses, controls, and extinguishes fires; performs search and rescue operations; climbs ladders; establishes opening in buildings; performs salvage operations. </li><li>Locates water supplies to fight fires; lays out, connects, and maneuvers hoses; operates pumps. </li><li>Administers first aid or other medical care. </li><li>Drives, operates, and monitors a variety of fire vehicles and apparatus; determines best route to each location. </li><li>Inspects building for pre-incident plans, fire hazards, and compliance with fire ordinances. </li><li>Aids other public service agencies as appropriate. </li><li>Monitors inventory level of departmental supplies. </li><li>Performs general maintenance tasks on vehicle and equipment. </li><li>Provides information and education to the public regarding fire safety, fire prevention, and firefighting; conducts training in CPR; participates in parades and civic events. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of fire prevention and suppression standards, practices, strategies, and tactics. </li><li>Knowledge of fire protection practices. </li><li>Knowledge of emergency and disaster management principles and practices. </li><li>Knowledge of standard fire prevention codes, National Fire Protection Association standards, federal, state, and local laws, and department standards, rules, and regulations. </li><li>Knowledge of emergency medical principles and applications. </li><li>Knowledge of hazardous materials. </li><li>Skill in planning, analysis, decision making, and problem solving. </li><li>Skill in the operation and use of fire equipment and apparatus. </li><li>Skill in the use of communications and audiovisual equipment. </li><li>Skill in master planning, pre-fire planning, and hazard identification. </li><li>Skill in public and interpersonal relations. </li><li>Skill in oral and written communication. </li></ul> <p>SCOPE AND EFFECT</p> <p>The purpose of this position is to provide professional and rapid response to emergency incidents. Successful performance contributes to the protection of life and property.</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>The work is typically performed while intermittently, sitting, standing, climbing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>The work is typically performed in fire department, except while at emergency or fire scenes. At a fire scene, the employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, inclement weather, extreme temperatures, and hazardous situations. The work requires the use of protective clothing and devices.</p> <p>PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT</p> <p>Medical calls: gloves, goggles, pocket mask; Structural fires: full turnout gear as assigned, self-contained breathing apparatus; Haz Mat Technicians: encapsulated suits.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: This position reports directly to their assigned Division Chief.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>High School diploma or GED. </li><li>No experience requirements. </li><li>Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Tennessee for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. </li><li>Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the State of Tennessee </li></ul> <p>FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay Grade: FTR</p> <p>HOW TO APPLY</p> <p>Review the job description and recruitment flyer.</p> <p>Submit the required application materials (see below) to Fire Station #2 at 225 Freehill Road.</p> <p>Completed materials can be submitted by mail, hand, or email at firerecruitmentapp@hvilletn.org. Pay is adjusted to $54,569 once Uncertified Firefighters become certified. Supplemental Life may be purchased for Spouses up to $20,000 without proof of good health.
