<p>Salary Grade</p> <p>Case Western Reserve University is committed to providing a transparent estimate of the salary for this position at the time of its posting. University employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes excellent healthcare, retirement plans, tuition assistance, paid time off, and a winter recess.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>POSITION OBJECTIVE</p> <p>Working with a high degree of independence and under general direction, perform tasks to support the operations group. Will be part of a team making amphibious legged robots to learn more about biological walking and to support projects in natural environments.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Utilize new and innovative robotics research techniques involving a high degree of skill and training. Specifically, operating custom robots in new environments, charging robot batteries, operating and maintaining lab equipment such as wave tank, 3D printers, VICOM camera system. Adjusting and assembling robots. Running code on robots (using Python, ROS 2, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi, GitHub, etc). Perform robot demonstrations. (50%) </li><li>Perform high level, complex analysis and calculation of data; interpret and make recommendations. Analysis will include preparing figures from robot data, comparing measurements of robot performance. Recommend solutions to problems as they arise. Support team by helping create figures, visualizations, or movies for papers, reports, and presentations (20%) </li><li>Supervise the training and performance of lower-level technicians and students, help students onboard by organizing shared tools, technical materials, and data. (10%) </li></ul> <p>NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Consult with principal investigators and engineers on projects. (5%) </li><li>Prepare and monitor own budget, specifically purchasing replacement components for robot and test equipment as needed, potentially other lab supplies. (5%) </li><li>Modify or develop new procedures and policies for experimental analysis of robots, as needed; update website with latest data; may travel to annual conference for demonstrations. (5%) </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. (5%) </li></ul> <p>CONTACTS</p> <p>Department: Daily contact with supervisor to discuss research and maintain workflow.</p> <p>University: Occasional contact with other departments to share information.</p> <p>External: Limited or no contact with vendors to exchange information.</p> <p>Students: Students who are researching in the lab (continuous) working together in teams, especially graduate students</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY</p> <p>This position has no direct supervision of staff employees.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Experience: 5 to 8 years of related experience required in lab, robotics club, maker space, code development environment, website work, technical writing, or other similar environment.</p> <p>Education: High School education required.</p> <p>REQUIRED SKILLS</p> <ul> <li>Comfortable communicating with, tabulating and calculation from quantitative data. </li><li>Ability to follow through on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform experiments consistently. </li><li>Ability to operate laboratory equipment. </li><li>Ability to meet consistent attendance. </li><li>Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest. </li><li>Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face. </li><li>Patience in trouble shooting. </li><li>Ability to learn more about robotics, fabrication, programming as needed. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>Working mostly in a robotics lab with computers, polymers in hood, machine shop equipment may be used. Some tests may conclude with field demonstrations in pool, lake or ocean beaches. Some work can be performed remotely.
